Ok guys surprised with recent events this has not been brought up already so what are your views on Obama thinking about changing gun laws is it too late to seriously change anything as there are so many guns around do they need changing if so how and what

It has always interested me I'm not in us and so from an outside perspective don't understand the love affair that you guys have with guns or why there is soo much gun crime there as I know that in Switzerland they have an awful lot of guns but very little gun crime

Do criminals follow the laws in the first place? No, so he is only hurting the people that actually do follow the law.

Plus I have no respect for someone that armed Mexican cartels, and won't disarm the people that protect him and his family, so he can fuck off too

Yeah I think there are too many guns in America to implement anything that could really change anything. What do you guys think he will look to changes here in uk it's reported that it's likely he will bann assault rifles but hand guns remain
i don't think there's an easy answer to. The gun problem you have over there and it certainly is a problem is it viable to have very stern prison time if caught with a gun ? There probably are but I'm talking 25 years for possession of one is hats bit extreme? WOuld you think twice about owning one or would It not deter anyone ?

    What's wrong with assault rifles?

I have rifles that can shoot just as many rounds and just as fast as my assault rifles.

Unfortunately, ALL my firearms were lost years ago in a terrible canoe accident on a raging river.

For a bunch of people that raise hell about "don't blame the breed, blame the deed", those same people need to consider that same process with crime.

I don't see people raising hell about cars being banned when a drunk driver kills a bus load of kids.

You don't see people trying to ban Facebook when several kids commit suicide because they are bullied on there

The root of the problem isn't the tool that is used during a crime. It's the individual

    Oh I think it's a great idea!

Lets make the law-abiding citizens give up their protection, so when the bad guy attacks you, you can cry and hope some people with guns show up to save your ass.

    Perfect logic.

But seriously, the bad people who do bad things with guns aren't going to follow the law anyway. Just like banning dog breeds - it will ONLY hurt the people who follow the law, and actually take care of their dogs. I grew up with guns - I was shooting .357's when I was eight! I learned how to properly use them, and when it's okay to use them on a person. Guess what? I've never shot anyone, neither has my mom or dad who were also raised with and around guns. The few times a gun has been brought out it's been in self-defense or defense of property, and it wasn't even fired. It's a tool. It is the person -the individual! As Kam said. I could kill you with a spoon - I'm not going to kill anyone with a spoon, most likely, but I could.

Do you really think a murderer or murderous or evil damn person who has it in them to kill a human for no reason is going to just say "Well SHIT, I can't have these guns." And is going to hand them over and then become a good human being because guns are illegal?
If someone is going to senselessly kill another person - they will do it without a gun. The gun isn't possessing people and making them kill - they make the decision to, for drugs, money, gangs, hatred, insanity, whatever reason and they will do it with whatever is handy.
When someone breaks into your firearm-less house and threatens your family, you're going to pray that some good guys with guns show up fast.

    Edit:
    2009 - firearms
    Number of deaths: 11,493

    2009 - vehicles
    Number of deaths: 33,808

Well, if we're banning guns because of the danger they pose, we need to ban cars first.

    Hmmm.

Or how about blaming the manufacturers of alcohol?? Look how "easy" it is to obtain alcohol. Where's the outrage? There are people that think the NRA should take some responsibility for the school shooting. WTH?

I like this Forensic Psychiatrist's "view". Some of the women's facial expressions are priceless; I thought their heads were going to explode and Whoopi was gonna upchuck a hairball or something.

Of course he could have befuddled THIS group of ladies with card tricks, geometry and first grade science ... but he chose facts and reason. That panel should just stick to what they know. How to make cheesecake, getting stains out of carpet, the best route to the mall ... stuff like that.

Everything he said, and I mean everything, was a complete contradiction to the collectivist approach this president and those in Washington profess and promote. The doctor offered common sense, rational and "personal" solutions to preventing this from ever happening again. NOT ONCE did he suggest regulation or laws out of Washington as a solution. I also greatly appreciated his indictment of the media over the past 20 years for their part in promoting this violence.

My hat's off to the good doctor for bringing reality and common sense into a subject that the media and the government bastardize CONSTANTLY to support their corrupt and immoral agendas.

I believe that the ladies of the View were making faces because the notion of personal responsibility is anathema to the American Left. I seriously doubt Doc will be on the View again. Unfortunately, what the good doctor is talking about would require changes that many people would find difficult, and steps that are not beneficial to the entertainment industry. Easier to blame inanimate hardware ... guns.

I own a gun but because of where I live I can't really have it (to much of a hasel and I have not gotten the IL crappy permit, still have my IN carry permit that is for life...anyhow) its at my parents house in Indy because of it. I say screw all the gun laws on law abiding citizens, yea don't let felons have them but by gum don't take away family protection. I know without my gun here I don't feel as safe as I would with it, I always have to think of where my phone is at night when my baby and I are home alone and my husband is working. Oh and I live in a tiny town that doesn't have much crime aside from meth heads blowing up their houses while they mess up making meth...yea bad I know but human on human crimes here are low at least.

It doesn't matter if guns are banned. People will find a way to get them or make bombs. So if the bad guys have guns then I think we should have the right to protect ourselves.

  14. obama is an idiot. he is only turning all this attention onto guns becuase his office failed in fast and furious. now he is trying to side swipe the public with his stupid agendas. i know when the school shooting happened, i went out and turned my 4yr carry conceal into a life time permit and i bought 2 more weapons. obama is an idiot! all he is going to do now if they make assault rifles illegal is turn it into a criminal market.

This. It's just pure fucking idiocy to ban guns. But I honestly think he did it because he was pressured into doing something, and a ban is an "easy fix". Not going to do a damn thing, though. What really needs to happen is making mental health help more available and affordable.

The only "gun problem" we have here in the States is that not enough people are carrying them. The whole assault weapon thing is bullshit anyway. I can take a Ruger 10/22 or Mini 14, which come as a pretty normal looking semi automatic rifle, and spend a couple hundred on aftermarket parts to dress it up and turn it into an "assault rifle". Same rifle, same action, same sights and all just an aftermarket stock and forend that looks different. Friggin ignorant retards. Ban on "high capacity magazines? Give me a damn break. How 'bout I just get two "low capacity" ones?

did y'all hear about that one school in Texas that passed a measure to allow teachers to conceal carry at school?

Yes I did. It was a little town called Harrold. They actually have parents from other districts sending their kids to that school.

Utah school personnel have had the right to carry firearms in schools and universities since January 2001. There have been no injuries to students in either Israel or Utah since teachers were allowed to have firearms. There was a terrorist attack on an Israeli school in 2002, but was quickly stopped with the help of an armed teacher.

The United States Post Office adopted the gun-free-zone concept 30 years ago "to protect its employees". Unfortunately, rather than protect, its weapon ban simply increased the casualties by depriving all the intended victims of a means of self-defense. The number of casualties during these shootings was dramatic and the term "going postal" came about.

No new firearm control law, added to the already 20,000 state and federal firearm control laws will do anything to stop something like what happened in Connecticut. Murder, attempted murder are both illegal, having a gun in a school zone without a concealed weapons permit is illegal, stealing firearms is illegal etc etc etc.

In the weeks leading up to the shooting in Connecticut ... the perp tried to buy a rifle and was denied. THAT tells me the current firearms laws are working !!!

It's time to stop disarming the innocent like many policy makers have done for the past 30 years and expect different results.
