Guess that breed?!?!

I think she has a touch of Husky and Fox. Some say Coyote, I personally don't see it.

She howls like a Husky.
She hunts mice and birds.
Pounces like a Fox on her prey.
Play's with dead prey. Tosses dead prey up in air and pounces on it.
Extremely high energy and extremely agile.

She's cute! Maybe a little wolf. She reminds me a lot of a dog I knew growing up, except yours has really different ears - smaller and squarer. But the colors, head shape, and face are really close. The parentage of the dog I knew was a husky/wolf and a husky/GSD, so the wolf was a little watered down.

I'd call her a husky mix if people inquire though.

A dog performs dog-like behaviors, stop the presses. My SBT does all of the things you mentioned. Howling, hunting and pouncing on small animals does not a fox or wolf make. The dog looks like a generic, run of the mill domestic-breed mutt (if I had to pull something out of my ass I'd say ACD x some sort of northern breed).

I didn't put those characteristics down implying wolf/fox/husky. I thought they might better help determine breed. That's all.

It's actually pretty dang uncommon to have a domestic dog/wild canine hybrid. They usually have shitty temperaments (for argument's sake, shitty in regards to being able to assimilate to living in a home) and are pretty frowned upon in the serious dog owner community.

I agree with Seven, I see the ACD in there because of the ticking, and definitely the northern breed. I'd say husky mix and leave it at that. Alaskan huskies, for example, are often a mishmash of lots of breeds; they're more of a type than a breed.

I see no wild canine.. It's usually fairly obvious to those who know what they're looking for when a dog has any wild animal mixed in, at least from mid-high content.

She looks to have several breeds in her and she is pretty unusual looking! How old is she?
Something about her eyes reminds me a lot of a Basenji! Though a lot of different breeds could be the culprit, and Basenji's are not common.

We could guess all day and never get it right.

And for example - wild canines wild/dog mixes:

cool looking mix for sure. Id be worried about her getting loose and someone mistaking her for a coyote and grabbing their gun. :/

WOW!! Poison those dogs are beautiful!!! I mean stunning!! I see what you are saying though, she definitely doesn't look wolf.
I was thinking fox, of course not full fledged or anything.
I have never owned a dog like her before, she is so awesome. I finally have a dog that swims!! I have waited my whole life to get a dog that will swim. My other two couldn't be bothered to swim. My sheppard is kinda weird in the fact he HATES getting his paws dirty. I thought my retriever would love to swim!! Umm no! lol >.<

She is two. We found on the street's two years ago boxing day. She is one tough cookie, she survived 10 days of parvo, and getting clipped in by a vehicle and fracturing her hip.

CallsignOWL something makes me think there is a hint of sarcasm in your comment. Which I am fine with I thrive off of sarcasm lol.

Anywho I thought this could be a fun thread and a break from the standard, my puppy bites me, is dog aggression normal, I just whacked my dog's ears off, etc etc.

In no way am I claiming I HAVE A WILD DOG! Rofl. I just think she is cool. I have never owned a hunting, howling, swimming, pouncing, extremely fast and extremely agile dog before.

P.S Poison any of those dog's yours?

I think it's a pretty valid concern. I didn't read CSO's post as sarcastic at all.

There was a story around here a few months ago where cops shot and killed two loose "northern breed mixed" dogs because they looked like coyotes. Coyotes have been a nuisance animal around here the past couple of years and most are shot immediately in the rural areas.

You could be very right and I could of misinterpreted what she was saying. No worries. I am not *mad*. I really did think she might be poking a little fun at me.

I live in desolate Northern Canada. We are surrounded by coyotes, fox, wolves, bears, moose etc etc. It's pretty standard around here in the winter to have wolves and coyotes in the area and within town limits. I actually came across a bear the other day on my walk. We are pretty used to seeing these animals.

If it helps at all, both parents have to carry that color for it to be expressed, as it's recessive. :)

She looks like she also has white points, which are seen in several breeds even Pit Bulls but it's most prominent in Asian Spitz breeds. Shibas and Akitas in particular.

On the wolf/coyote thing, unless there's obvious wolf or coy I don't mess with it. There are far too many ifs and possibilities.

This dog is a good example, his dam is a purebred Lab and his sire is a Gray Wolf. I would've never guessed it.

And CSO's comment was definitely not sarcastic. My dog isn't not anywhere near as similar to a wolf or coyote as your dog and I still worry about people mistaking him out in the woods, so he wears an orange vest when applicable.

One breed that comes to mind for me is the Korean Jindo, they come with white points and agouti. (What's referred to as "Sable" in GSDs) They pretty common in Asia but not so much here.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Coydogs tend to have veeeery weird personalities. Coyotes act very different... lemme see if I can find a link explaining it.

True enough. I guess my brain struggles with openly shooting an animal. I reside more on the tree hugger side of things.

Point taken though. I apparently wasn't understanding what was being said.

Thanks. I will take more care when she is out.

We have a coy dog infestation in my area. If it is loose and like like a coy, it's shot. But these same guys keep calling my dog a little game dog. Currently that "game dog" is rolling in her chain spot making weird noises playing with the kitten she found and thinks is her duels friend.

It's really hard for me to wrap my head around too. But a friend of mine GSD was shot while she was hiking. He wasn't even a sable dog, he had a traditional saddle and someone shot him with the excuse of "I thought he was a wolf". (Which none lived here at the time. There's only one wolf alive in our state.) Some people are way too trigger happy :(

Out here it is a periodic organized hunt. Coyote are common, but shy. Honestly they don't do much harm but this coy dog pack got huge and learned to hunt livestock. They also maim, not kill. And they are BIG! I had them in my yard killing a deer on night while boo was on her spot. I now haven't problem with the hunts. At least they are not poisoning or using hook lines.
