grain free to kibble with grains?

after years of avoiding grains for our health challenged Tonka girl the Dermatologist is pretty sure her severe allergies are due to tree pollen. That being said, it appears she can eat a lot of different things and not have issues. Does that mean it would be okay to try kibble with grains like Fromm?

Teddy on the other hand has had a lot of gut and allergy issues. I bought Fromm classics for him one time which contained chicken and brown rice and he got very itchy very quickly. He has very teary eyes when the outdoor allergy forecast is very high. His gut is very sensitive. Sometimes he can handle a soft boiled egg and sometimes he can't. He ate the marrow from a beef bone one time with no problems at all. He eats a small amount of cooked calf liver weekly and doesn't seem to have any problems with it.

I avoided grains for a long time too cause of my old guy having ibd but I decided to go back to grains and he’s done well but I would still get a high quality food like Fromm or I’ve been using Victor Professional and it’s so cheap too compared to the grain food

I think Tonka would love Victor Professional! I looked at it so many times. I had Fromm in mind though. Thanks for responding.

I tend to rotate kibbles trying to stay with better quality ones with a lower protein level not over 28%. I am not keen on the grain free ones and recent studies have pointed to a link between heart problems and grain free kibbles. I've feed high quality kibbles with some rice and grains with good results. I like to see at least 2 meats in the first 5 ingredients.

I've feed Fromm and was happy with it, it has a good reputation. I also read about some of the Victor formulas and they sound pretty decent quality too. I also feed half raw too so that helps, plus adding salmon oil and coconut oil. Plus some whole milk plain yogurt… dog eats well!

Hi Brindle, thanks, I tried giving Teddy the Fromm Classic when we first got him and he got extremely itchy right away. I didn't know if it was the chicken or the brown rice. I still don't know? I mixed in the Hasen Duckenpfeffer one time and I really liked it. However, my husband thought it wasn't agreeing with Teddy and I can't remember why. I'm thinking of getting it again. Anyways, one problem with Fromm is that their kibble is so tiny. I just bought a 4lb. bag of Fromm 4 Star Game Bird and I'm really disappointed at how small the kibble is. It is smaller than the Hasen D. I'm considering getting a small bag of the Fromm Gold for large breed dogs (green bag).
