I'll be a busy momma when they all get here.. all of the separate feedings, cleanings, and little enclosures

I think I am just going to grow them out a bit, pick my favorites and rehome the rest when they hit a few inches.

So I'll be starting feeder colonies as well..

This is a sickness, it is.

    jeoestreich GRCH Dog

I know the sickness. I have it also. How small are they going to be?
  7. Poisoned

    Poisoned GRCH Dog

Most likely .25" or so. They aren't shippable for about a month, so they're baby babies now...

Are you going to start breeding your own feeders? Because that will be a lot of crickets?
  9. Poisoned

    Poisoned GRCH Dog

Yep, I'm leaning towards roaches rather than crickets... But I might just stick with the crickets, they just breed slower..

I have been thinking.. WTF am I going to do with a 100+ babies?!?
So, I'm getting just a few slings and probably a Juvi Chromatus.. not positive..

oh my,you mean 100 baby spiders? Will the majority of them die as babies? I'm not trying to imply that you can't take care of them, but are they normally hard to raise from babies?

Im perfectly happy adoring them from pictures.. :D They are too cute though - I must admit!

It is more difficult to raise them from tiny slings for a few reasons - all the feedings, the much more frequent molting, their sheer size can mean they can be injured or killed by the slightest thing - but with proper care most of them wouldn't die ;)

oh my gosh! 100 little spiders to take care of! Do you have to separate them as they get bigger? Will they fight and kill each other?

i love the tarantulas.. but... YOU RELEASED THE WIDOW!!!??? UGH BARF. *shiver*

Well I ended up NOT getting the 101 babies :D
But yes, they will cannibalize so if you want them all to live you separate them.

And yep - I found him outside, and once he matured he was restless because he wanted to mate, he will die soon after his last molt anyway, so I figured what the heck let him die following his instinct.

Will they fight over territory, not just to eat each other?

I'm not positive on that, there ARE tarantula species than can coexist in the same (large) enclosure. Ones that make a little hide/web and stay in it, they each have their own little area - but they can still fight, or cannibalize.

Some are territorial, mine would get ticked off about me putting my hand in there to clean...
