I'm a pet-sitter. The dogs I watch tend to have routines they like to stick to or are just more comfortable in their home than being boarded. I do it through a site and have opted for the background check. Clients also leave reviews and give a rating of 1-5 stars. The site also requires that any incidents be reported and they are very thorough at investigating them. I know because I had a sweet little dog pass away while I was caring for her. She had a genetic health issue that caused it but the site took my page down for a couple weeks to get statements and make sure I did everything I could and was not at fault.

I watch a lot of dogs in my home, I don't put them with other dogs unless the owner requests and I never introduce new dogs to a small group that has already been together before.
