    Minaj the Rednose,
Your dog is adorable and her coloring would be considered as:
    red brindle red nose.

Because there still seems to be some confusion... If your dog is an APBT you need not worry about what AKC thinks as they do not recognize APBTs.

AKC frowns upon dogs with a red nose no matter what coat color. Their standards calls for a BLACK nose. Though they do put up many many blues who obviously have blue noses LOL. So I think it is a bit hypercritical of them to not be as accepting of a red nose especially since nose color doesn't enhance a dog's performance or abilities.

    FROM THE AKC STANDARD:
    "Nose definitely black."

Good analysis of the colors. I found this really informative!

I think the great bias against the red-nose is because the specific reason behind it is well-known. It was specifically put there to keep the red-nose out of AKC. There are believed to be a couple of reasons for the decision -- a dislike of the red-nose dogs by the founders back then (remember, there weren't nearly as many around in 1936 as there are now; and like now, there was a bias against them BECAUSE of the way they look); and, a desire to keep that different look of the red-nose dogs out of the AKC dogs. (They DO have quite a different "look" about them with the lighter eyes -- which totally changes expression -- and the red nose). Those who desired to show in the AKC ring knew they had quite a lot of different looks anyway and the look of the red-nose may have been deemed to be just too different. Much of the AKC standard is devoted to maintaining pigment (calls for dark eyes, no pink eyerims, etc) and none of that would have been able to have been maintained if red-noses were allowed.

"ANY" color is permissible in Am Stafs; and nothing is mentioned about "blue". There have always been blue dogs, but the noses were most likely so dark back then (none of the washed-out stuff we see today), that it was not realized those noses were NOT black! The genetics was not known and those noses "appeared" black! We ask judges to fault dogs to the extent that noses are NOT black -- ie, the darker the better and red/pink is a long way from black!

Has anyone heard of a blue fawn rednose? My peanut has a dark maroon nose and blue fawn coat...

There's no such thing as a blue red nose. The coat is probably lilac/isabella.

This thread was SO informative. If I read the AKC color chart correctly, Barrett is not tan and white, but rather fawn and white? Loved looking at all the different coats. Such gorgeous dogs

I think a blue fawn dog will have a blue nose/mask.

Your dog appears to be something called lilac - maybe one of the color experts will chime in.

    coat color

Harley is black, tan and white but his tan spots are brindle. Everyone always asks if he is a rottie mix because of the colors, which drives me foolish, lol, what do you guys think?

I would call Harley black/tan.. Chloe looks like a blue fawn and she looks more like an Ambully. Both are pretty girls! :)

Thank you, they are both great dogs. Harley's father was chocolate tri colour pit and his mother was all brindle am staff. Chloe is a pure pit that photo makes her look more bully then she actually is.
