Both of my EBT's are the most loving friendly playful dogs in the world....they always want to love every person and dog they come in contact with, they never show aggression towards anyone and if another dog at the dog park or while walking goes after them or shows aggression or challenges them, they never retaliate (so far, fingers crossed) ..... They are both in tact and not spayed or neutured.....Now comes my question....With knowing these things that I've just said, MIA is food aggressive to CHICO ! and sometimes Toy aggressive...not at all to me or my family, we can take food away or toys and she is fine, we don't let her eat at will, we give them their food at specific times and they MUST sit for their food before they eat....But Mia will eat her food and if Chico comes near she will growl or snap at him, and on a regular basis takes bones and toys away from him.... He backs down and just walks away...IS TIHS NORMAL for the bitch to be so dominant and aggressive to him? Should I try to curve this and put an end to it? I have pictures of both of them in the pictures forum if you want to see them!

My dogs do this, and its more instinctual than we realize, my dogs know that NO types of aggression are allowed or tolerated. Often times one or the other will growl or snap in the direction of another dog and than stop and look at me and put there ears back, because they know, that is not tolerated. Never allow your dogs to 'work things out' on there own, they can't, and you lose respect within your pack. A pack leader never allows pack members to battle, or have issues, a strong pack leader controls, and monitors every aspect of the pack and its activities.

The only way I can explain the way I do things with my pack is exactly like Cesar Millan on the Dog Whisperer, many people on these forums disagree with this, but I have 4 dogs, and I know 6 other dogs that are trained with this same method, and they all do fantastic. I feed my dogs in there kennels not as a pack, because they don't eat so fast and I don't have to watch them so carefully. But toy possession is absolutely forbidden, and just because its a male and female doesn't mean they wont fight because they most certainly will, once your male gets tired of it, he will do something about it, and than you will have a huge problem on your hands.

you think putting their food in their crates would be a good idea? I dont think its all toys, just toys with Peanut butter in them , like the Kong...So this is probably just the food aggression right?

I dont allow my dogs to eat together because it takes constant supervision and correction at every second, and I would never give my dogs a big prize such as a kong with peanut butter in it with all my dogs around because the breed is much too possessive and I would give that in kennels too. Every issue I have ever had with my dogs is because of possession.

LOL they don't call them for "bitch" for nothing honey! Yes it is normal for the females to act like this over the males.

I only have 2 dogs an APBT and a bull terrier. I don't normally crate them with there food, treats or toys unless I am gone. They know better than the take things away from each other. Sometimes my BT will try to sneak up on my APBT when he has a toy or something and he growls at my BT as a warning. I will let him, however if it persists I give my BT a correction as to say that he needs to leave the other dogs alone with their toys and food.

Again I only have 2 dogs so it may be a little harder with more if they are not well trained or don't get the idea. I do like some of ceasers methods, but not all. I like the idea of exercise, training, then attention and his pack leadership skills. I do not agree with his "alpha rolls" or that every dog can be fixed and rehabilitated. He does have some things going for him, but not others.

    Hope I helped!

okay good i'm glad im not the only one with a dominant female and its normal for females to be "Bitchy" lol..... Mia listens so much better than Chico, but Chico just has this naughty goofy lovableness about him just like a 3 year old human boy lol.... its impossible not to pick him up and lay him on me and love on him!

LOL what you described tends to be the biggest difference I see between male and females. Also that males tend to be more hyper and playful while females tend to be more calm.

I use to care for my friends APBT bitch a while back. She ruled the house and nipped at all the boys legs. Great dog, but she really was a "bitch".

so true...chico will run outside all day long and hucklebutt inside like no tomorrow, and mia will lay down on her side all day long if you let her....she usually doesn't even hucklebutt unless Chico starts first...

Mine are the same Even though Roxy is younger she is still the boss of the the two.

With regards to the food mine eat together side by side on a stand I have been patience with the two of them and supervise them eating, I make sure that there is no growling when they eat. They used to have a little growl but that has stopped in the last 3 months.

But one thing I have found is they eat a lot more peacefully once they have been out for a walk or good run and after they have calm down which is about an hour rest i feed them.

Dont get me wrong they havent been like this but we have just been persisten with them and dont allow them to get away with anything.

Theres one thing that I cannot sort out with them is when they get possesive over a toy and a ball i snot allowed unless I supervise them in the field.

One thing I have found if you allow them to get over excited you'r asking for trouble, I have worked out that with their last disagreement other people have been present which has excited them which triggers the girl to snap at him.

Generally if you keep the demeanor around them relax and calm they tend to be what the feel around them. Again another Ceasar advise

some females are dominant around males especially around their food ...and it can be a hard thing to nip in the bud !
I disagree with what hacklebutt said... as In all the many years i have been around bull terriers i have never known yet a male put a dominant female in their place :no2:
In fact i have seen powerful males that could really handle them selfs that wouldnt dare cross a dominant female ! and the ones i did see try came 2nd !

my sasha can me guarded round food ...but shes knows i wont stand for it so if i ever feed them together she behaves !...so my feeding times are un eventful ...but thats not to say if i threw some nice bones out to them and left them to it they wouldnt get at it ...theres allways a pecking order where one thinks its all for them ! its nature !

I've heard a lot of bt owners say that the female "wears the pants" and I believe that to be true for the most part. It's up to you to decide if this is just her being "bitchy" or if she's actually being aggressive. It may be better to feed them in their crates in that case. The most DA girl I've ever had walked in the house as a pup and shared her first meal with my male. We never once had a problem between them at all.
I've also had the misfortune of buying a (very poorly bred) 4 month old pup who attacked my daughter for touching her EMPTY bowl!! No, not puppy play bite - full out attack mode this was. Needless to say, she is no longer here.
I have 2 well bred bts now, socialized and get along well too but I feed in crates - just in case.

I agree with this! Females can be really bitchy, stubborn and hold grudges more so than males. That's why I stick with my boys ;)

I have seen and I have heard stories of bull terriers getting into it male and female...and I have seen male bull terriers get real nasty with a female bull terrier whom is being dominant to them, it would be ignorant as hell to assume your dogs will not battle because your male will always submit to your female, im telling you now DONT ASSUME THAT, cause you will be sorry when you find out wrong and that male bull terrier gets real tired of taking the bull shit!

A guy on the international bull terrier forum once told me about his breeding pair of bull terriers that nearly killed each other a couple times. I have seen first hand Bowzer not take Scarlett's shit when she is being an out right bitch and he wont tolerate it, and I NEVER leave my dogs home together unsupervised because I am always there to correct my dogs and if something were to happen and never allow a fight to escalate. If they were home alone together whose to say things would not get out of hand? Shivery is dead, in the dog world too.

I think thats an old true and trusted rule of thumb ;)
I have a male that is 11 years old here and he has got to know his fair share of girls over the years and hes never once had the better of a dominant bitch!
Same goes for the bull terriers my mother kept through the 1980s....she had 2 male stud dogs that wouldnt dare cross the food bowls of her foundation bitch Meg who was a real handful and a would take great pleasure in beating them up i recall !

I am not saying its not possible but 9 times out of 10 the girls are the boss !

I agree Danielle don't trust your dogs alone together and don't trust a male wont go after a female because accidents can happen and fast at that. I do typically see the female as the one is who boss, but that is not always the case.

Most females might be the dominant but i have seen first hand a full grown female and male BT get into it. I was petting the male through an outdoor fence and the female kept jumping in front of him and nipping and growling and he got fed up and got a hold of her pretty good. Not a pretty sight.

and the owner was saying that the male finally got tired of her shit and fought back.

ALSO: Here is a key point here, I WOULD NEVER sit back and allow my female to dominant or punk my male, these aren't people where the men should not hit a woman, i would never allow one of my dogs to punk the other and allow them to work it out on there own, trust me it does not work that way.
