finding pit bull friendly living?

I've been currently searching for somewhere to live that will except Cali. I have posted on Craigslist, called/emailed various properties, called my local Humans Society, called/emailed rescue places, and my mom even made a post about it on her Facebook. I haven't been having any luck so far and I am not going to ever give up so I thought that I would post something here to see if anyone knew anything? I live in Washington state in the Pierce County area. Thank you for reading! Looking forward to responses!! Have a great day!

Your best bet will be with private owners. Keep trying - there are places un the area that don't care what type of dog you own.

Have you tried sites like this that let you filter for only the pet friendly rentals? http://pet-friendly.rentalads.com/Washington/Orting/

Have you tried putting a portfolio together for your dog - behaviors she knows, obedience classes she's passed, any titles she has, etc.

Maybe try offering to do an interview with the dog. Property managers/landlords may feel more comfortable after meeting her.

Can you offer to purchase renter's insurance to alleviate any concerns?

I second going through a private rental vs. a property management company.
Property management companies adhere to the rules the owners asked for and they will not contact to owner to try to "bargain" the lease agreement where as with a privately owned rental you can often bargain with them like what Tiff mentioned.
Offer to buy insurance, offer to pay an extra damage deposit or pay extra for rent (usually $50-200 extra a month depending on how nice the place is) etc.

I have been in a situation that forced me to wait until the day before I had to move out, my towns vacancy rate was under 1%! Never found anything, and over a year later there's still no pet friendly rentals under $2500/month. Goodluck!

So where do you want to live? California or Washington?

if you get a medical doc or a psychologist to 'prescribe' you your dog (or any other type of reasonable pet) specifically for emotional support, under the law a rental will have to accept your girl (as long as she is 100% behaved... that means no barking, messes, etc. at all). no extra deposit allowed. of course, the landlord could deny you for other reasons just because they don't like your dog...

This is making me feel quite helpless in an already joke of a society where there are laws that can dictate shit like this.

Are there dr letters that will let people smoke crack in ones investment property as well?

California or Washington? I am living in Washington and I plan to stay here

You act like that's an absurd question. You stated "I've been currently searching for somewhere to live that will except Cali."

It's your wording that made me ask you. Apparently your dog is named Cali.It appeared you wanted a somewhere to live except california, or somewhere to live that will accept in california. I realize your sentence was really asking for a place that will accept your dog "Cali". I don't know about real estate in Washington but, the PNW is pretty lenient when it comes to bull breeds. You should start looking at private listings. Maybe even make a post on craigslist or similar sites. You should place calls to every realitor in your desired area and explain your situation. Say your willing to take any and all precautions in order to be able to live with your dog. Sadly, if you are in your teens or early twenties your going to have a harder time. It won't be found overnight, but with some time and effort you can absolutely find a place. Back when I use to rent I always offered double the security deposit, renters insurance and sometimes x months of rent upfront. I never had to do anything other than 2x the security deposit. Once offered finding a place was simple for me. Good luck.

As others have stated, money talks. I've had friends that doubled the damage and pet deposit to have their pets with them. I've never owned my own home but I have rented with multiple pets including "aggressive breeds". I've had the best of luck when dealing with private landlords and a lot seemed surprised and dismissed the thought of me just getting insurance on the dog. I've always been upfront about the dog's breed and so far haven't had a problem. I'm in East Tennessee though and Pit Bulls are quite popular as family pets so location might be a factor in my luck with renting.

Sure, there are plenty of apartment complexes that specifically don't allow certain breeds or mixes of breeds but for every 10 property management companies that said NO, there were at least 2 private landlords that said ok in my case. So don't get discouraged, keep looking! It took me four months of disappointment before I found the place I'm at. The only thing I sacrificed was a yard but its forced me to leash walk a lot more and train a lot more since the property manager doesn't allow dogs to be chained without direct supervision.

Aside from the fact that it's rather immoral to get your dog set up as an Emotion Support Animal (ESA) if you do not actually need an ESA; I've had the paperwork for about 2 years now and it's sitting in a drawer somewhere because it's freaking useless.
ESAs are not covered the same way a service dog is. You only get "resonable accommodation" meaning the most common no bully breeds rule due to insurance issues still stand (it is not resonable to have them change their insurance and potentially pay a higher fee for one renter), weight limits can still be an issue depending on cercumstances (it's not resonable to allow a 100 poun dog on the top floor of an apartment for example in some cases), and breed can still play a role as many people are truly terrified of bully breeds.
"Resonable" varies person to person but for the most part there are still many completely legal reasons for them to say "no" (though not liking your dog's breed alone is not enough, though I imagin if they dislike the breed that much your probably don't want to rent from them anyway).

Cosmic Charlie--- I am sorry! I just realized after reading your comment that I completely put the wrong word when I was meaning to say accept ---- I am talking to a relator and she told me that she has some properties she is renting that will accept Cali. I have been looking for the past couple months I'm really hoping I found something!! Thanks for all the replies!

I'm glad Swolf was here. Saying you have an ESA when you don't actual need one ruins it for the people who truly do need that. It also makes things much more difficult for them. And as Swolf has stated-ESAs and SDs do not have the same "pull". A service dog does something for the handler that the handler can not do for themselves-i.e. alert to a possible sugar crash (diabetes)...ESAs provide support. Makes life easier to deal with-i.e. someone who doesn't like large crowds can handle them better with their dog.

There was a chick on the forum a while back that would tell people her husband was in the military so she'd get special treatment. Saying you have/need an ESA when you don't is kind of the same as that.

OP I know my post was kind of off topic (and no way directed at you)...sorry about that. I want to encourage you to build your dog's resume as others have stated. You can put references (vet, pet sitters, anyone that has constant contact with your dog), obedience classes, titles, certificates, ect, ect. Does Cali have her CGC or TT?

Awesome, I am glad to hear the realtor is open minded. If you sense any hesitation that's when you pull out the reserve cards and offer 2x the security deposit. That way when all goes well you can get the money back.
