I feed twice a day. I had a video years ago that discussed feeding during conditioning, and it suggested multiple smaller meals a day as the dog only uses what it needs AT THAT TIME, so if they eat a big meal, and their body only takes what it needs then, the rest is just wasted really. With smaller meals, they get more out of their food and less goes to waste. Made sense to me, so I've been doing it that way since.

Twice a day is good but three is even better. Like Zoe said multiple is the way to go but most people can't be home to feed three times a day. It's no different if you were working out you would want to have multiple small meals a day.

Hmm I feed eagle once a day I've been doing that since she hit 8 months but reading what zoe wrote makes sense maybe ill switch back to twice once spring hits and I really start conditioning eagle. But I curently only feed her 2and a half cups a day of bg now. When she goes outside she acts like she's starving trying to eat every bone off the ground what's a good empty filler?

I have always fed twice a day. I don't want my dogs gulping down 3 cups of food all at once.

I know many people feed once a day but I believe that it is better for the metabolism to eat more than once a day... so I feed twice.

I feed 1 time a day, when I was doing 2 times a day they would not eat all there food so I went to one and have not gone back

I've always fed twice a day.
Liberty's 9 and has never had a problem.
Now that I feed Lily half raw, I feed kibble in the am and raw in the pm.
Sometimes I'll give the girls a treat mid day, like an egg or a trachea or something.

We feed twice a day. I figure they absorb more nutrients out of the smaller meals and less of a chance they'll get bloat. Not sure if there is anything factual about that but helps me worry less about it anyway. :)

We used to feed twice a day but with our schedule change it just works better for us to feed once a day.

I prefer once a day or every second day as that way the dog gets that full feeling from a meal. Not just giving him a cup as a meal which does nothing for the dog on a level of how satisfied it is after a meal.

I feed twice a day with part of one of the meals inside a frozen Kong, usually part of his dinner.

Once a day. My dogs don't eat in the morning and I don't feed kibble so it's not as easy as just picking the bowl up. If they don't eat their food I have to wrap it back up and put it in the fridge then I have an excess of food left over from mornings. It's a waste.

And I try to fast them at least once a week.

2.5X a day, the dogs are hungry when they wake up, they get a decent-sized breakfast after some exercise.

Then in the afternoon (after more exercise) they get a snack.

A few hours later J, at leasts gets a workout and an hour or two before bed he gets a smaller meal.

They also eat raw and tend to use a lot more of it than any dog food I've had them on.

Lily food bloated once. Her entire abdomen, as seen in the x-ray, was completely comprised of food. She was STILL trying to eat food.
No amount of food 'satisfies' a dog with no 'off' switch.
I'm also confused about your logic. If they're satisfied after that one large meal, aren't they going to be hungry for the next day and a half?

I feed once. Dogs were designed, like wolves, to eat large portions in one sitting ...of protein anyway. I can't find the source anymore but I know I read somewhere that digestion is activated by the food expanding the stomach. As little food as my dog eats I can't imagine splitting up into two meals.

We feed ours twice a day. once in the morning and once in the evening. i like to make sure he gets some running around done after he eats too. then its lights out for him : )

A dog running around after eating is a great way to increase the chances of bloat.

Yes, I'm anal about keeping my dogs quiet after they eat. Because they only eat once a day, it's a lot of food in one meal. I feed them about half an hour before bed time. They aren't allowed to play with toys or wrestle. Nothing after dinner time. It's quiet time on the couch or in a bed in the living room, then upstairs to bed!
