[IMG] [IMG]Jane loves her new Elk bone. Today at petco I was just looking at the cheaper toys by the register when I heard her start to munch on something.. lone behold, it was this weird bone looking thing. I read about it a little bit and its apparently good for their puppy teeth. Have you guys tired it?!

I think that's actually an elk antler, but they are awesome! I get mine on ebay from a seller name michiganantlerart and they have the best deals I've found, because they are waaaaay too expensive at pet stores.

I got one for my dog and she couldn't be more underwhelmed.

She is a weird dog though, not interested in chewing anything if can't immediately be eaten. :no2:

My dog loved the first antler I got her, so I invested in some better quality ones and she barely even sniffs them... dogs are weird

Elk antlers are softer than deer antlers so if your pup is a heavy chewer, she'll go through it quickly. Also, if it's halved, you may notice that she eats the marrow out of it, then doesn't touch it again. You may have to get whole antlers if she's picky like this. But they last a while around here so they're well worth the cost. I also recommend them to everyone because they're 100% natural and digestible.

Just make sure they're not treated, some big box stores like Petsmart sell chemically treated antlers which are no good.

Thanks so much for the info!! so far she is loving it, she is a chewer when it comes to her toys. Ill have to get her one that you mentioned! I do love that they are 100% natural. And I will make sure that I check the labels all the way like I have been, I do not want one chemically treated at all. thanks again for all the great info! xoxo -Julie&Jane

I recently started giving my pup some whitetail antler. I have a friend who is teaching me to build knives and he uses antler for most of his handles. He gave me a few pieces that he couldn't use. He also gave me the top of a skull with some fleshon it. I boiled it for 45 minutes and let it air dry overnight. He loves it.

I heard deer antler was softer than elk antler. Anyone want to confirm or deny this?

Thats crazy, my pup barely puts any dents in her antlers and shes maniac when it comes to things she likes.

It was crazy, Ive bought one from petco and she showed no interest in it what so ever and she just tore this one apart

I hope you're not feeding the cooked skull. Cooking compromises the strength of bone and makes it brittle. It's very dangerous as it can perforate a dog's intestines.

Elk is a lot more hollow and "bark/tree" like than whitetail so I would assume its softer.

Didn't know that! Ill be sure to take it away and just give him the skin since that's what he chews on anyways.
