Ear cropping..?

Hi! I'm not sure if I posted this under the right stickie but here goes:
I've been doing some reading on ear cropping & we've decided were going to get our pup's ears done & set up an appt with our vet. Is there any particular "style" that is generally used for pits..? The only style I really don't care for is the "battle" crop.
Any input is appreciated, thanks! :)

    It's all personal preference.

The most important thing is to get a good vet. Ask for references and pics of previously done bull breeds. It's important that the vet has lots of experience with bull breeds, not just cropped any dog as head shapes are different.

My vet is great.. that was one of my biggest concerns. I was referred to her by my friend who has 4 pits.. 2 of them are cropped & he did an awesome job

I love your dog's ears _unoriginal. I know it's hard to tell now but Luna's are half pricked so I have this feeling she is going to end up with bat ears..lol. I love the cropped look anyway though. Mom's & dad's were both cropped so it's hard to get an idea of how hers will turn out.

Thank you :) I love his ears too.

This chart might help you. Make sure the vet crops for the adult head. That's probably one of the biggest mistakes I see here on the forum. Some dumb vet crops for the puppy's head not for the adult head. So the crop is super short when the pup is grown. The crop should be a little long on a puppy.

The best advice I can give is _unoriginal already said, just make sure it's a good vet who has done many crops on Bully breeds.

If you come across a dog online who is cropped and you like their crop, take pictures to show the vet. My boys both have show crops. Barrett's is a bit longer than Sako's (although his head still has growing to do), but they both suit them very well. Here is Sako:

We opted to crop Barrett a bit longer because even as a teeny pup he had a big head, and there's nothing worse than having a crop end up being too short once their head comes in.

Would have to agree it is a matter of preference. Personally I prefer the floppys...lol. Kady you have a beautiful dog, by the way. If it is done by a good and experienced vet then whatever you feel fits you and your dog best is what you should consider.

Thanks _unoriginal. That definitely helps. Do you know if these are all the crop variations or not?

Kady05, you have beautiful dogs! I like the show crop also but I think I may go just a bit shorter.. not by much though.
Like I said.. I love the floppy look probably just as much as the crop look but I'm terrified of how her ears are going to turn out lol. Has anyone ever taped or glued their pups ears?

I've posted pics of her on other feeds but for those of you who haven't seen her, here are the most recent ones I have of her from a little over a week ago.

Mine have always been uncropped, but if I was going to go with one, I'd do short crop.

I think that's what we're leaning towards too

    Awww, pretty blue baby

If you know someone who is good with photoshop you can ask them to manipulate your photos to see how your dog would look cropped and get a better picture of it

I did mine a show crop because the vet advised me not to do a battle crop. She didn't need her ears taped they just went up on there own. Also my vet wouldn't do them after she was 12 weeks old. I don't know about anyone else but I had a problem trying to find a vet to crop my dogs ears . They said because it isn't a dog the UKC accepts with cropped ears. When I decided to go with my vet he did have me come in and showed me pics of other dogs he had done . He also took a marker and with a dotted line showed me where he was going to crop them at. That's a great Idea, I didn't think of that! I kind of held them up that way & it's just not the same.. lol. I have a neat photo editing program on my phone.. I'm gonna see what I can do with it.

Most won't do them after 12 weeks but it just so happens that mine will do them up to 14 so we have to make a decision like tomorrow. We spoke with her vet today & I think we're going to go for it. It's something we've kind of been going back & forth on for the past few weeks so it's not a spur of the moment thing. The price was kind of holding us back in a way too, we knew it would be expensive but not that expensive! Your puppy looks beautiful.. she's a cutie! Purebred?

I think I'm going to go with the short crop as opposed to the show crop or even see if he can do an in between.

Yes it was very expensive but I really like the way that she looks with her ears cropped. I liked them floppy but I like them better cropped. She is purebred (razors edge). Thank you she's like one of my kids lol.

    Nice!
Ours is like another child too.. we have 3 human kids & with her 4 total. :) If you don't mind me asking what did you spend..? My vet charges $450 & said that's actually on the lower end of the cost scale. My friend (the owner of Luna's mom) said she only paid $250 for her mom's crop but to me it doesn't look like they were done correctly. I'd rather pay the extra $ & know it will be done right!
