I just got a call from my brother, who is very upset. He has a 4.5 year old Shih Tzu named Marque who became suddenly very ill yesterday. He rushed him to the vet this morning and found out that he has really bad kidney stones and that one of his kidneys was shutting down. As I type this, he is in surgery. The vet told him that had he waited until Sat. (When his original appointment was for) the dog probably would not have survived. It is touch and go right now.

This is an incredible little dog with the heart and attitude of a big dog. He has been there for my brother through a lot of really bad times and goes everywhere with my brother. A true companion.

I am hoping that those of you who appreciate what a true companion dog can do in your life, will send some prayers and good wishes his way. I would hate to see my brother lose this little guy right now in his life.

Just got a quick update. There were 4 surgeons working on him and they have done what they can. They found quite a few large stones in his tract and kidneys. They worked until they felt it was too dangerous to continue and stopped. It's wait and see time now.

They will be sending the stones they got out to the lab to determine what caused them and so quickly.

Thanks again for the prayers. This boy really needs them right now.

We had a rough weekend. Two surgeries later and there is still one they can't get out. It is not as large as the others, but in a very bad place. They sent him home late Saturday with pain meds and some food to help break up the stone. The poor dog is in a lot of pain and can't seem to relieve himself. It looks as though a very difficult decision will have to be made today. I haven't heard from my brother this morning yet, so not sure where he is at today.

Oh man, that's not what I wanted to hear. :( Poor boy.
Still keeping my fingers crossed, maybe there is some hope for him!

This little man is a fighter! Although he is in a lot of pain, he is still hanging in there and fighting. We are hoping that the food they gave him to break up the stone will do the trick. Occasionally it will move out of the way and he can go. But, then it seems to slip back in. I haven't heard from my brother since last night, I am just hoping all is ok.

Thanks guys! So far the prayers and good wishes seem to be working. Although they were unable to remove one of the stones, it seems at this time the medication and food is working. He is able to go today and drinking and eating normally. After two surgeries he is even up and bouncing around like his old self. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the last stone is desolving.
