Hey guys, please make sure you read the rules that are posted in the first post of each DOTM contest.

One of the biggest things is please DO NOT post your entries as attachments! They will be deleted. I try to remember to send a PM to everyone whose post I delete, but sometimes I forget. So again, NO attachments, you must insert the image directly into the post. That's really easy to do; you just need an image URL (usually ends in .jpg), and you type [IMG]. Done!

To post a picture from your PBC Gallery:

Click on the picture in your gallery
    Copy the "Direct Link Code"
    Paste in between [IMG]

Also, and this isn't a "rule", per say, but just a courtesy. Some of the pictures submitted are HUGE. I have a 21" screen and sometimes I have to scroll to see the entire image. The large files can really slow down peoples computers as well. So please, resize your pictures to a reasonable forum size.

    Thank you!

What's a reasonable, I usually keep my photobucket set at Max quality so it may be too big?

I'm not sure what the dimensions would be for that, since I don't use Photobucket much. But like, if you post your picture and preview it and it's enormous, and takes up almost the entire screen, it's probably too big ;)

I feel like 700x700 is as big as a picture needs to be.

For example, this original image size is 2592x1944: http://i.imgur.com/EVsAf.jpg
Resized (with locked proportions 700x525), the image retains quality and is large enough to view all details: http://i.imgur.com/Oc1C4.jpg?1

I don't think a picture really needs to be any bigger than that.

I have a 22 inch HD monitor with a screen resolution of 1920x1080 ... a 700x700 or a 700x525 is quite small. I resize pics to 800x600. Even when I didn't have an HD monitor ... I used 800x600. In fact I have always used 800x600, since my first home computer in the 1990's.

Here is a screen shot of what a 800x600 pic looks like on my monitor. There is a ton of blank space on my monitor.
    It's from the January 2013 Males thread ... http://www.pitbull-chat.com/showthread.php?112338-Post-January-2013-Males
Does it look too large on your monitor ??

Maybe the contest rules should specifically state a preferred picture size ??

I have a 15" LCD Retina Display with a resolution of 2880x1800. I don't think 800 is too big. I do think it's the biggest it should get though.

Here is what Joe's image looks like on my monitor compared to his:

Notice how much bigger the image appears on my screen compared to his, and both pictures are of the exact resolution (both original Mason images are 800x600 and both screen caps are 800x450).

I really wouldn't allow anything bigger than that, I can't even see the entire post with an 800 image.

    HA !!! :)
I think maybe the contest rules really should state a preferred picture size.

OH ... and BOTH those pictures you posted fit fine on my monitor LOL

Yep LL ... so many different monitors and resolutions. AND I have NO idea how PBC looks on a mobile device. That's why I think a preferred picture size/resolution should at least be suggested in the contest rules if size is or becomes an issue or problem.

I use SmugMug to post my pictures, which resizes them for me. Even when I post the "Extra Large" version, it's never *that* big. I'm not sure what dimensions they use though..

But, here's an example, screenshot from my computer (which again, is a 21" screen). And I'm not trying to call anyone out, btw, this was just the first one I noticed recently that was HUGE:

vs. what I would consider a "normal" sized, the one posted of Mason:

So yes, a "preferred" dimension would probably be a good idea. I'm pretty sure just about every photo uploading site has different choices for sizes nowadays, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Bumping this up. Lots of entries have been posted for this month as attachments.. I've PM'd a ton of people.

Edited the original post to give directions on how to post pictures from your PBC Gallery as well!

Back to the top! Again, please don't post pictures as attachments! There are directions how to post pictures from your PBC Gallery as a regular image in my first post. Thanks!

I don't.. if it makes me scroll across my screen to look at it, it annoys me. Plus it makes everything load slower. Resizing is your friend!

I do my photos 640x480 or 640x425. I personally figured our those dimensions for this forums layout.

    example of 640x480

I hate having to scroll the page just to look at a photo.
