For those of you who are religious, do dogs have souls? and do they go to heaven?

    and Why?

I'm not sure if they do.

What I am sure of is if heaven is the reward for having lived true to the what most of us deem good human behavior, than dogs must significantly out number the people there.

According to the bible they do not have souls and they do not go to heaven. No one knows if that is true, but that is what is states. People do have different beliefs on it. I would figure they would have to go somewhere they are still a living creature with energy and a personality.

While I am not quite religious, I do attend church and I think if there is a Heaven and humans who are saved go there, then dogs must. Animals are pure, they don't hate, lie, they aren't malicious, they know no sin.

And to be honest... Heaven without my animals would be Hell.

Could you quote the Bible where it says that?

Well we know there are animals in heaven. Jesus will come back on a white horse. Well we know there is atleast 1 horse in heaven.

I believe dogs do go to heaven. They are probably the purest, kindest, and most loyal creature that exists. Do they have a soul, I don't know. But they all have their own personalities.

I will say I believe they go to heaven, because Heaven would not be Heaven without my dogs. And I have to have some hope that I will be with my Trouble again one day.

This would necessitate a discussion on why dogs would go to heaven, why they would be there....
do they earn their way their as some folks believe humans do... or are they there for the humans.... are the animals in heaven a reformed body of animals from earth or they created for heaven...
If animals go to heaven and are not created there... do they also have animals in hell...
if there is a heaven, must there not also be a hell?

I'd also like to know where it says that in the Bible.

I think dogs have souls, and I think they are a really great reflection of Gods love. That is just my opinion.

so it would seem that some of you believe that God gave souls to things that he gave man dominion over and gave man permission to eat...but I guess that must be ok in your mind... you must view it as only having dominion over and eating of the body and not the soul....
as I said earlier, you can not have heaven with out hell... so what does a dog do to get to be in heaven and what does it do to have to go to hell?
Do they live by commandments and law, or do they have a form of grace dispensation?

I think once the body is gone the soul goes on. I also think that dogs are in the same catergory and children when it comes to accountablity. I don't think an animal can be held accountable unless it has understanding of God and how he works and Gods laws. Just my opinion.

ok, so if you kill a dog and eat it, you would be doing it a favor by letting the soul go to God?
and human children reach an age of accountability, and dogs do not.
is this age of accountability or lack of it... a grace thing or is it guaranteed by law?

    A very intriguing post, Obed.

It raises numerous questions, particularly as to 'earning' ones way into heaven or hell.

Are dogs we deem good dogs good as matter of conscious choice?
Are dogs turned bad due to abuse judged responsible for their actions?

Wait... you can't "earn" your way into heaven anyways. Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven. That is what I believe, and I know some people believe in earning their way in. My grandmother is JW and she thinks all her "works" are going to help her get there... but then there is the whole 144,00 and so on... way off topic, but to me, yes, all my dogs will go to heaven. If I'm wrong, so be it, I'd rather believe they are waiting for me.

    Lol Obed...

But in reality... I highly doubt we will be concerned with anything but praising God in heaven... so who knows if it will even matter.

Part of what I love about humanism. I do my best to be good to people and animals, with no expectations of rewards in whatever afterlife there may be.

If there is a heaven, I hope my pets will be there, cause odds are, I won't be.:D

If I had a nickel for every snotty holier than thou asshole douche bag who thinks going to church, then being horrible to everyone they encounter will get them to heaven, I'd have my own island.

And when I say this, I always think of my bf's sister's best friend's crazy Baptist parents, who stole her dog out of her room in the middle of the night, dumped it on someone's porch in down town Flint, all because he was a pit bull mix, and a threat to their safety:eek:. They didn't have the decency to take him to a shelter or to even tell us what part of the city they dumped him at so we could take him to our house. They didn't get why their daughter remains heart broken and angry at them to this day, even though she nursed the pup back to health when he had parvo, and was the only thing she had left after a nasty break up with her boyfriend. Oh yeah, those folks are so going to heaven.

I am a spiritual person, but not Christian. Since I do not believe in heaven I do not believe our pets go there.

Last I checked, Catholics do not believe animals have souls and therefore cannot get into heaven. I know a few preachers at Baptist and Lutheran churches who say the same thing. Between that, Obeds posts and people I know who really, really love their pets I have to wonder if religion will evolve and start claiming animals to have souls or is people will actually leave their faiths because their faith says animals do not have souls.

Yeah... church is not God and I know people like that. Kinda funny considering God is love and that is what we are supposed to reflect.
