    DIY/HGTV..Who else watches "housewife porn"?

I am an HGTV and DIY channel addict. I can't be the only one. Fess up, people!

My newest fav is Holmes Inspection and old episodes of Holmes on Homes. I am in luv with Mike Holmes and not afraid to admit it! My husband calls it "watching housewife porn". He razzes me endlessly about it.

    Mmm, Mike Holmes

Lol, Joe. When you live in an old house that needs some work here and there, a guy with a tool belt who knows how to fix stuff becomes very attractive!!!

Does the Kitchen Crashers girl do anything for ya?

If you guys have never seen it, Renovation Realities is hilarious! Window lickers trying to renovate their homes. Every episode I have seen is just rofl worthy.

I'm totally addicted. Before we bought our house I watched house hunters, property virgins, . . . . I would yell at the people for being sooooo picky. Now that we have a fixer upper I've found holmes on homes, reno realities . . . . and love them. Its just too bad you end up like them sometimes lmao. We tried to do a simple kitchen faucet replacement and it wasn't so simple lol $60 faucet turned into a $300 sink since it was all rusted together. But those people are just plain stupid: "Let's rip up all the plumbing and move it over there because it'll look better even though I've never touched a pvc pipe before" lol. I love that basement rental reno show too.

If I had cable, I'd be watching it.

God. I hate going to fix a simple thing and having it turn into a debacle. It really never ends.:no2:

Yep me too. The sad part is it would've only been another $100 to replace the shitty countertops while the sink was out but we were too scared of what else we'd find and we knew we didn't have enough money to fix it. With our luck, it wouldn't have come off the cabinets and we'd never get our kitchen back lol. So I'm still living with my old formica with no finish since it has all been scratched off but at least I have a shiny new sink and faucet

This is why I am following my friends example of home renovation. Buy all materials you will need..cabinets, flooring, grout etc. etc. and store it in the garage/basement. Save up about $1000. The start renovating things.

*sigh* I have a crapton of space in the garage and basement storage area because I am the anti-pack rat. But nothing renovation wise to fill the space because I have to do the windows first.

I got bored with House Hunters, but I still like Property Brothers. I also like all of the Crashers shows. Kitchen Crashers, Bath Crashers, House Crashers..

Not only can you not fix one thing without finding something else wrong, but water is evil.

If you fix a leak in the kitchen (sink), it moves to the bathroom(also sink). If you fix it there, a pipe in the basement cracks. When you fix that, the leak moves back to the bathroom (tub).

When you go to fix that you find out the parts are sold by one guy in a 50 mile radius because your house is old and that guy is only open til like 2pm Mon-Fri. When you finally get to that guy, he tells you your part is no longer produced nor is it code and if you break/strip it again you will have to replace everything to get parts that fit AND to do that you will have to tear out a tile wall that's 20 years older than you are and in better condition than you are, too.

    FML.

Start now so when you have a house you will be sort of prepared. Watch the Holmes shows, he deals with shitty contractor mistakes and shitty inspectors so you will know what to be on the lookout for!

Our house was a HUD home and it was winterized so we bought it as is, no inspection because we would've had to dewinterize, turn everything on in our name, do the inspection, and then rewinterize and shut everything off again regardless of whether we wanted to buy it. All in all it wouldve cost $1000 so we gambled.

When we turned the power on and the lights actually worked, I felt like we won the lottery lol. I wouldn't recommend it for most first time home buyers but we didn't have many options and we knew the property alone was worth what we paid for the house so it was all good.

MJ, thats a good idea, buying everything and storing it, I'll have to remember that when this house lets me start saving my nickels and dimes again

Loove these shows! Income property and Home to Stay are ones I like to keep an eye out for. Divine Design - I LOVE her work! I also hate to love the show For Rent since I was a condo renter before I bought my townhouse. I always get so mad because I could never find places like she finds in the GTA for those prices!

    God. Yes.

One side of our kitchen sink STILL can't be used (I put fruit and shit in there) because we can't find the right parts for it. Thank you bank, for using mysterious, Mexican parts to "fix" our house up for us.

One week I got a wild hair up my ass after the bathroom sink sprung a leak to fix BOTH sinks. Nothing we bought for the kitchen fit right. We got the new drain pipes for the bathroom sink, only to find out the threading for the drain pipe that goes into the wall is stripped. We now use the bath tub to brush our teeth until I get a new wild hair up my ass, and get that taken care of.

Ditto. Gotta love the HUD homes.

LMAO the first thing we had to do was disconnect the bathroom sink since it leaked so much. That was in March. We bought a new faucet but the connections were wrong so we're still brushing our teeth in the kitchen. Maybe we should start a support group

I feel so much better knowing its not just me :)

Oh, I also like to watch Cool Tools and I Want That! on DIY. I think I mentally spend about $3-$5k a week.

We really should. It's good to know I'm not alone. Although, we all adjusted to using the tub for brushing our teeth pretty quickly. Now the sink is just that thing I stub my toes on every morning.

I'm putting serious thought into tricking my bf into taking all the contractor courses at the community college. Does that make me a bad person?
