Dagger Dogs

those are the traits that the ukc bred for look at dogs like corvino's bradock, colby's bobtail, tramp and wilder's geranimo these were all beutiful big gamedogs they fell into peoples hands that only liked looks not game. back in the day dogman were conditioning several dogs at one time, they didnt have the time or energy to put into the big dog so they culled them out of their breeding program. But every once and a whil a bigun slipps through Mayday, Jocko, hammonds dogs and redboy dogs just part of the game

Exactly. And even if you look at dogs like Mayday and Alligator, I'm pretty sure they never weighed more than 100. And if they did, then they were probably hog-fat, overweight and unconditioned.

back when most of these dogs were getting famous was around the time of the deppreshun you have to remember a big dog eats more keeping he size down
more for the buck so to speak

I was talking about gamedogs in my previous post about size. You mentioned you've seen 100 pound UKC dogs. You said the magic word (or should I say letters, LOL!)...UKC. Show dogs are bred for size and appearance, no surprise there if some of the dogs are big. And I think everyone would agree that a gamedog and a UKC dog are two very different animals.

Aside from weight pull, what else are dagger dogs used for??? I havn't heard of them being used for anything else. I'm not trying to disrespect dagger dogs, but to say they're purebred apbt's.....well, let's just say I'll let everyone make up their own mind about that. JMHO.

I have heard that they also hog hunt with them.
I like a well bred game dog(but I LOVE the OFRN). I've seen and played with nicely bred game dogs. Would have loved to own them. I prefer an average to smaller dog myself.
As for UKC judges. they are now picking more of smaller to average size dog, but most of them still don't know what Balanced means .

I believe Whopper was mixed with some mastiff, and it was said to improve that line as a weight pulling line, which I guess the extra strength was what they were going for.

OK....aside from weight pulling and holding records for it, I also have met Omar Ross when living in Las Vegas. We met at ADBA conventions. I now live in Florida and have met others with Dagger dogs at weight pulls. One breeder I met that doesn't pull his Dagger bred dog, says his dog was the best catch dog he has ever owned. He ended up being the sire of my dog. The dam was a good size at 55 lbs. As for temperament I couldn't ask for a sweeter dog. He has nice conformation, though a little large by ADBA standards. Although he has placed second in a ADBSI sanctioned show. Like they say "form and function". If you're using a dog to take down a 300lb + hog, it doesn't hurt to have large dog with that do or die attitude. The dogs I really don't like to see referred to as APBT by the uninformed or novices to the breed are the so called "American Bullys" To me they are a total aberration of the American Pit Bull Terrier.
