Yesterday around 8 pm i let Cesar outside to go potty- i use the door off the basement to let the dogs outside on a tie out then sit in the front dinning room (converted porch) and watch as more then half the room is windows and i can keep an eye on them outside without actually being outside.
if anything happens im 2 feet from the front door-though he never reacts to anyone or anything going by.

When Cesar wants in he has learned he can simply body slam the back door and let himself in because he is too impatient to wait for me to walk
6 feet to the back door to let him inside.
so yesterday, he slammed the back door open, i had the door leading between the basment and the back door shut, i heard him open the back door, got up and
went to unhook him and shut the back door.

after i let him inside and shut + lock the back door i went back into the livingroom to sit down.
after about half an hour the dogs kept looking outside and barking/wimpering, they went to the front window and to the front door.
i told them to be quiet and went back to whatever i was doing.
after another half hour htey started again, only more persistant whineing and shrill barking, i looked out front expecting to see
a deer but saw nothing and told them to be quiet-but they wouldnt
    so i tried ignoreing them.
Chimera was persistant and after an hour and a half i said "WHAT! do you gotta go potty or somthing??"
i stood up and headed for the back door to let her outside to go potty..and i happen to glance ou the window while
walking past..and see my cat Ginger!!!
she was sitting on the porch peeking inside at me!!!
now, my cats are 15 years old and have NEVER EVER been allowed outside i have had her since she was 8-9 weeks old! especielly not here since we live right on the main highway
leading out of town cats are hit and killed on a monthly basis out front of our house.
i screamed and opened the front door where she non-chalantly came walking inside as if it was no big deal!!!
i checked the house-no openings, doors had been locked. all i can assume is she snuck outside when Cesar had opened the back door.

Chimera was so happy following her around trying to give her kisses like "I SAVED YOU!!!"

im so incredibly happy and amazed that she went to the front door and waited to be let inside-like she KNEW! even though she has never ever been outside before!
and i keep thinking about how that scenario could of gone-she could of taken off, got hit and i may not of known for atleast a day-had i simply gone to bed
and noticed she didnt come out to eat breakfest the next morning before searching the house and not finding her-it would of simply been as though she had dissapeared without a trace.

im so thankfull she was smart enough to know to stay close to our house and not wander off, and then to sit on the front porch and simply wait for me to come and get her.
i dont know what i would of done if i had lost her! always wondering what had hapened to her if she were not hit out front of our house.
i have had her since i was 9 years old-we litterly grew up together, i love that cat more hten anything else, i tell my boyfriend that if it ever came down to him or Ginger-i would not hesitate to let him go and i would choose Ginger no matter what without question.
i love her so much that-after she passes, i will never own another cat-i will foster, but i refuse to ever call another cat my own.[IMG][IMG]

So glad you noticed her outside! I bet she was wondering when the silly human would come and open the door for her!

YEAH! from now on when I let Cesar out to go potty-I am going to lock the back door so he doesn't just open it himself and let them outside again

OMG!! Thank goodness she knew enough to stay close!
I remember coming home from work and finding one of my screens pushed halfway open. I panicked. I thought about all my, indoor only, cats who could have gotten out. Thankfully, they were all inside and ok. Turns out when I washed the windows on the outside, I put the screens in backwards so it was easy for them to push them out!!!

Fucking cats are a PITA!!!

What a scare! You are lucky you listened to the dogs and looked and even luckier your cat didn't go anywhere lol.

My kitty got out once overnight about 7 years ago now when we were at our last apartment. I got up and fed her and she didn't come and I knew she was either dead or had gotten out. OMG I freaked out and had to go into work crying because I hadn't found her, my boyfriend kept looking and found her hiding under our other truck in the driveway! He brought her to my work which was such a relief. This cat is a huge bitch to everything but me and a pain in my ass but I've had her for over thirteen years now and the first pet that was really "mine".

So glad you were able to find her! thats how my girl Ginger is!! she absolutly HATES everyone, and all of my family members
tell me they are afraid to pet her! but she has never laid a claw on me in her entire life!
she will even protect me from the dogs when the dogs get carried away wrestling or squabbile-ginger is right there to
slap them both and make them calm down :)
