Conformation Dog Show Competition

Discussion in 'Obedience & Sports' started by Sapphire Blues, Jun 25, 2010.

  1. Going to my first dog show on July 11th. I am taking my blue/white 5yrs old male, UKC 'PR pit. I'm sooo excited, I can't wait. I just wanted to know what to expect, also to help me get ready for what is to come... If I can get some helpful suggestions, I will be truly grateful..

Is it a UKC Show? That dog is not an APBT looks AMBully to me, not that AMBullies are a bad thing, I own one myself, but would not show him in an ADBA or AADR show unless they had an AMBully fun class.
  4. He is an APBT, the first show is going to be a UKC APBT. The second show that is coming up is for APBT as well, but I believe its for ABDA... He is double reg UKC and ADBA. I really do appreciate your input. Thank You:o

He isn't real bulky, I really never considered him to be a bully.... Now my little girl she is a hoss. LOL... But Diego is somewhat lean. His grandpa is GRCH Iron Bear Booda from Iron Bear Kennels. He comes from a line of GRCH's and CH's. If I can do any type of show I would be so happy... :)

far from APBT. however, that is a 'bully' AmStaff

As he is right now, he wouldn't do well in the ADBA. I am not sure if you can get him conditioned enough to do well in the ADBA, but you could always try.

Here is what an ADBA Champion Looks like:

they have a few clubs that are doing bully shows too, though you need a beast to win in that stuff seems like
  8. I got his papers out and looked them over. It does say he is APBT on his papers, could UKC have it wrong???? He has Grand show champions, and Show champions in 5 diffrent dogs... Well I do appreciate your input, but I'm going to try it out. Even if I come in dead last its all for fun. Thanks :)

Many American Bullies are still registered with the ADBA and UKC as APBTs. Usually one just has to look at the pedigree to know for sure.

Going by that pedigree above a lot of AKC Amstaffs, and a lot of unknowns (but someone may have not finished filling it out).

Definitely try it. You might have luck with the UKC. If not, then you should look into the ABKC and ABBA (Both Ambully registries) .

A lot of american bullies are reg under UKC as a APBT because UKC does not reg the Ambully. However they are far from true APBTs. Some can have hung papers, some are only mixed with APBT/amstaff and some have others breeds in them which people some how got away with. Look over that conformation site I posted and try some UKC shows. If they don't go over then I would suggest some bully shows. He looks almost right in the middle bigger than an APBT, but not as thick as a bully. Good luck!

The reason I am encouraging them to go everybody is sometimes once you get there and look around that's the best education.

Do any of you all remember that song from Sesame Street? "One of these things is not like the others"...............LOLOLOLOL

They look around and figure out they are that "thing" :D

Not making fun of the dog by any means just sayin'. ;)

like everyone else said, amstaffs and ambullys are both registered as APBT with the UKC as theyre not recognized breed in that registry.

And American Bullies are the reason the UKC will no longer single register APBTs either.
  17. Thank you all for your help, I have allot to learn!!!! I am very new to showing dogs, but I have always watched shows on TV... Now that were done picking over my dog... :) What should I expect at a show??? Just so I'm not so deer in the head lights...
  18. What about Lexi???

Well maybe instead of showing Diego. How about Lexi, she is a little over a year old, and is reg. as ADBA. I know its not a great pic of her, but its all I have for now. I will post some better pics soon. Thanks

If you can get her a little better conditioned, you never know. You might as well try it out, and see how you do. :)

I say put those dogs on a diet and walk them 2miles a day and take them on to a show!! Might not place - but you will meet a lot of good people and have a good time!!
