I spent the last month doing everything I can for my niece Michelle's dog. And even though she and her family very much loved Bruce, they were not dog people. I had told them to use me as resource and went as far as boarding and nursing Bruce at my home for a week while my sister's family went VT. Yet after telling them of keeping vigilance over Bruce's condition and keeping me in the loop--they felt it would only burden me to be involved and it was only through my persistence that I found out he was losing appetite, and they started to switch foods amidst the panic and of course not understanding the tell tale signs and waiting too long to get to a vet.

I rushed over this weekend (as I'm still at my sister's) but Bruce was listless. In short Bruce was my niece's birthday present when she was 12 and never having follow through with his pedigree, so they gave Bruce his birthday to be the same as my nieces Jan 27. Of course that was yesterday and the first time in half her life that the family celebrated her bday w/o Bruce. Bruce left us on the 26th. I memorialized him by moving his birthday back to the 24th. You can imagine how in trying to give my niece a precious gift has become an angst ridden turmoil in the last few days for the family.

On top of this, I got news that a mentor of mine has begun her battle w/leukemia and said she will welcome me back personally on my return from Asia in April! ...then as I was reaching my sister's Sat night, the news broke of my associate entertainment journalist that he is in ICU after being a victim of a "labeled" hate crime right in the heart of the theatre district. The news broke after he was kept on life support for a week and is now coming in and out of consciousness...yet no lead and tight lips in the investigation that happened in the middle of the night of a busy metropolitan.

Forgive me as I do what I do best in times like this...and that is work. I'll be posting images for a dog show I'll be attending next week (thx Kady for the heads up) but will be keeping my comments and appearance on the forum brief and pertinent to the post. I thank you all of being part of community that cares.

    thru misty eyes... Carry On
