CCL injury again...le sigh

Well after treating 2 (right & left) CCL injuries w/ conservative managment...Veronica re-ingured her right knee and I think this is the big one.

After her walk last night she got off the couch 3 legging it - which she has never done in her past injuries. I had some carpofen so I gave her that and called the surgeon this morning. He said he "didn't think it was an emergency" - which yes I acknowledge it isn't; and he'll see her next Friday.

In the interim I feel so bad for her I could cry. I gave her another carpofen this morning and I think it is making her sleepy as she is on the couch resting. I had to help her up and down the stairs, she's still 3 legging it.

On a positive note, if she does need surgery (which it looks like she will) they can just lop of the little tumor we've been monitoring.

On the down side, I'm going to lose my fucking mind watching her being able to do literally nothing and 3 leggin it around when she has to move. I feel so bad for her. I feel so helpless...there is nothing I can do to make her feel better, to fix this NOW and I don't do nothing well.

Oh no! Poor Veronica, sorry you and she are going through this. Sounds like there will be lots of cuddling on the couch at your house this week?

Oh boy do I feel your pain! Piper actually just had TTA surgery on her left knee last Friday. We did the conservative management route for almost a year, and while she did improve with the rehab (laser, chiro, massage, etc) therapy, it was still a "well, it IS going to tear at some point.." kind of thing. So I bit the bullet and did it.

Of course while we were doing the new x-rays and exams, etc., the surgeon found that her right one looks partially torn as well :no2:. She starts rehab in the next 10 days or so.. hoping to build her muscle back up slowly and prevent the right leg from going down hill.

Not sure if you have a FB, but this might help you: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10102237306402512&set=vb.68137241&type=2&theater

That's 4 days after the surgery. She's doing REALLY well.

If you need someone to talk to, let me know!

That is a bummer! Sorry she is having to go through this, but she is so very lucky to have an owner like you. I know she will get the best care! I don't like it if I think one of our dogs is uncomfortable or in pain, I immediately want to "fix" it right away so I know that you having to wait until next Friday for the vet visit is stressing you out.

Oh poo. I'm so sorry Jazzy! Poor V, she's too fabulous to be gimpy.

Sincerely hoping all goes well. Is surgery scheduled?

Thank you guys, it means the world...because I am stressed to the max and I really don't have anyone to talk to who understands. My husband feels terrible too so I can't harangue him constantly; and Veronica's Grammy...well let's just say she ADDS more stress to the situtation and that's putting it mildly.

She isn't scheduled for surgery; but she does see the surgeon who's been following her on the CCL journey next Friday. He has to date recommended conservative management; but this time...I really don't see it, I kind of think we're at the surgery stage (which would be less stressful for me if Veronica's Grammy didn't think and act like an over-grown 5 year old...so she's at least 50% added stress).

Thank you for the offer Kady, I may very well need someone to talk to! (and that video is awesome). - her surgeon is extremely conservative and has said he favors the traditional repair...I just don't know, honestly my head hurts and my brain is mush.

The carpofan knocked V. ou; she's been sleeping on the sofa since after breakfast. She just woke up 10 minutes ago and wanted to go on the porch so now she's lying out there with her kong.

I swear if I could trade places with her, I'd feel better if I had the damn knee problem!

Thanks guys! All the well wishes are doing something.

Yesterday she was 3 legging it with her tail between her legs and I had all I could do not to cry everytime I looked at her I felt so bad for her...

and she got progressively a tiny bit better through the day...and this morning she is walking on all 4 legs and not exactly weight bearing but not quite toe touching either! Thank God, because watching that 3 legged hop was just about going to kill me.

At least mentally she's more her old self. We're still carrying her up and down the stairs and this morning she was like "What are you doing? stop that! I can walk like a big girl!" Course we said, Noooo, it's a bird, it's a plane...it's a flying Veronica-Lynn Pit Bull!

    Thanks guys!

We have a 11/8/13 surgery date. I don't know what I'm more freaked out about...the surgery itself (and you know, my other dog had multiple surgeries...I thought you were supposed to get better with this shit as you got older, not worse...:no2:) or the recovery period.

I'm thinking Dirty double cross vodka martinis.

But in all actuality...I've already thought about this...and have convinced myself it won't be safe to drink for @ 4 months...I could trip on her, or trip her, or roll over in bed and squash her...I have to keep my wits about me.

(See, not going to be good. :panicsmiley:)

Good luck! I always find surgery a little scary, but the recovery is far more traumatic, and of course, lasts longer. It's really hard to keep a high energy dog down, and I think leaves both parties stressed and frustrated!

Hope the surgery and recovery goes well for Miss V! Boy is she going to be chagrined about being kept quiet... Perhaps embarking on something like nosework might be good once she is healed enough? Keep her little evil noggin busy! She is so cute. :aww:

I promise it's not as bad as lots of people make it out to be ;) Piper has handled it extremely well, so hopefully she can send those vibes to Veronica! Tomorrow will be 5wks. since her TTA!
