Bull terriers in India

Im new to bull terrier but not to dogs. Ive trained working dogs in Schutzhund and protection work for a few yrs. i would never want a german shepherd that was an AKC champoin, there is a 99.9% chance the dogs is worthless as a working dog. Why you ask....? show ring breeders breed for the standard or what in en vogue at the time. when a breeding is planned you will have to make a choice between the dogs that flat out works, have high drive, good nerve and dont break down. Or the dog that fits the standard. The show ring basically says "my dog is built correctly, therefore it can do its intended job" While the working section says "my dog works and works and works and doesnt break down, therefore he is built correctly"

All dogs are not created equally. For example. I can look at a german shepherd dog and make some general assumptions. If its an american AKC dog i will assume (and most likely be correct) that it will not make the cut in schutzhund, police work etc.. because t has not been bred for those things in mind.

Form should always follow function, AlWAYS. while I dont know very much about bull terriers i do know that the only way to get the egg shaped head is to have been bred for it. From the research ive done i cant find a reason for changing the shape of the head.

I'm not saying all EBTs are worthless, don't think that. I'm just saying that these dogs are clearly bred for nothing but function- the idea of looks have never touched their breeder's minds. While the KC and AKC have bred dogs for, "Who has the most curved skull?" When you don't breed SPECIFICALLY FOR FUNCTION, you lose function.

My point exactly. I'm not saying that the egg-shaped head would directly affect the dog's athleticism, but it shows that a dog is a show dog, that is what it has bred for for generations, it's not a performance bred animal.

I agree with your comments, but I still want to emphasize that just because a dog doesn't look like a show dog, does not make it a function-bred dog. I guess that's what I was trying to get at. If you see a dog at a shelter without a sloped head and with a skinny body, we shouldn't first assume that it was bred for function, we should instead assume that it was randomly bred to whatever BT was around at the time.

If you note this owner comments, though, you'll find that they are game-bred bull terriers. Looks don't mean anything in the arena they were bred from.

AHMEN!!! seriously though youd be amazed at the drive a BT has the breeders i got Cesar from has overweight spoiled barrel bellied dogs BUT cesars daddy who has the most champions in his background(compared to the female dogs) took down a wolf killed it. him and the females also run down rabbits now for a dog to run down a wild rabbit not contained is pretty impressive IMO.
