BT athleticism

So I was watching my super athlete running around the dog park the other day, and i realized he's either extremely UNflexible, easy to tire, or are they all like that?

For instance the Staffy Tobi likes to play with is extremely fast Tobi on the other hand is pretty slow in comparison i mean he can get some bursts going for a few seconds but nothing prolonged. they weigh nearly the same, the staffy is 60lb, Tobi is 50, After about 15 minutes of running around or jogging around tobi seems pretty tuckered he's normally dumping water over that people have on the ground for their dogs and laying in it. Also when i watch him running he seems like he is very ridged like his front arms really don't move much they do small movements in comparison to other dogs running around, I'm debating on getting Xrays to make sure everything developed okay lol.

Are your guys bullies this way too?

Sonya used to run in bursts as well in the park. But she'd play with the spring pole thing until her energy ran out. But she was sick, so I don't what healthy bullies are like.. Although I think it's more of a motivation thing than an energy thing.

I agree. I think it's about desire to a certain extent.
Brando will walk FOREVER. He'll chase his ball FOREVER - until he's killed it or grows bored with it. Then he lays there panting as if he has nothing left to give...UNTIL I present him with a new ball when he comes alive again.
I guess it's something to do with drive/desire to do stuff?
In terms of stiffness, Brando is not as flexible as the Staffies we know, but he isn't far off.
He's heavier than most of them though and I think the thick bone etc does make them a bit stiffer and less athletic.
Staffies always surprise me with their lightness despite how muscular some of them look.
The bullies of ours are pretty densly made!

EG. - This wall is one of Brando's favourites - he thinks there's something over it that he needs. 2 out of 10 times he'll jump straight up on to it, the other 8 he puts his front paws up and heaves himself up.
I would say most Staffies would jump up EVERY time - he CAN so it, but it's obviously harder for him

lol Brando looks just like my guy in terms of when he's standing like that, how you guys are describing yours is ringing true to how tobi is... looks like Brando's arms bend in the same 2 places as tobi's When he's crashed out on his side do his arms that are on the topside just kinda hang in mid air? i'll have to get pics of mine doing it its pretty wierd.

I had an APBT for about a year before she was stolen and she was incredibly athletic with an amazing drive she was 75lbs, and like lightning so i was kinda comparing how Tobi would be to her etc etc but they really are little compact balls of muscle.

Brando looks ripped too btw, where did you pick up that collar? thats weighted right? I've been looking for a nice one to help increase Tobi's stamina and neck a bit.

Mine is really stiff. She has short legs and waddles from side to side when she walks. Reminds me of a bulldog.
However, when I throw a frisbee she can twist in the air like crazy! Her legs seem stiff, but her middle seems very flexible. They seem to be much more solid and rigid than staffys from my experience. I haven't seen many staffs though...

The wide chest is why your guys arm hangs in mid-air. It's normal!

I think Sonya looks more like a terrier than a bulldog. She has longer longs and when she's not fat (like now) she actually looks a little athletic. But then again, she definitely looks like a piglet from far away when she trots!

Waddling is so cute :D

He def can get twisty in air... Stair climbing is something i forgot to mention as well... i laugh every time my guys goes up and down stairs...

Ya Aprotopo alot of Bt's i've noticed get the Bulldog appearance/build or the terrier build which i much prefer... Your sig pic is adorable btw! one ear up and one down :D

They seem to get pretty winded, Scarlett and Bowzer will play so hard they collapse and breath hard, I think they just put there heart and soul into it!

Thanks...the main thing is I don't overfeed him and he has plenty of exercise.

The collars are made by a company called MAG or M.A.G.

But I cannot find them ANYWHERE on the internet apart from this ebay seller which is probably no use to you unless you are UK based.

Awesome, i'll definately do some research and see if i can find something, or even make something, i'm tired of not being able to find good quality things for my dog that don't meet my needs :P

Btw how do you know what his optimal weight is? i'm thinkingTobi's will be between 45-50lbs, but that is a substantial difference in the amount of food he gets as we feed raw and go by prime %. 2% to be exact.

Thanks for the link i did some spelunking, and found this Mag collar shop de Hollanda The harness is amazing, i'm goign to try to figure out how to get something like this.

Forgot to ask as well, how big is Brando's neck? Tobi's is only about 14" at the point the collar won't slip over the top of his head.

I've got the MAG weighted harness from eBay, it's really good quality it will last forever. added alot of muscle to my dogs shoulders and he seems to enjoy wearing it.

The weight thing I've just gone my trial and error and now feed him an amount by eye which I know keeps him just right.

If he has a particularly active day, I give him a bit more. A day when he's not so active a bit less.

Brando's also on raw - chicken is is staple diet (bones and all) and whatever else comes in.

He weighs 60-62lbs and his neck is 18 inches.

We've also got the MAG weighted harness (see video below) and it IS amazing quality (just like the collar) but I've not used it for maybe three months now. Just got out of the habit and been using the collar instead.

If I go back to the harness I'll have to lower the weight again to build him back up to using it.

Just bought him a non-weighted MAG collar too. Same hugely tough material but very cheap.

Really good products, shame they're so hard to source.

Gonna have a look for some pics of your lad Tobi - if I don't find any, will you post some up?!

Wow i love that harness, it looks beautifully built... i'm in the process of talking to a dealer of them in Czech right now seeing if i can get them shipped here! :p

I did post some pics of Tobi in the pictures area quite a few actually, i may have a few more though

We feed mostly chicken bone in, and skinless... we normally use alot of red meats, Venison he loves and gets pretty frequently (lots of farmers don't like them in their crops) :P

Oh i was going to ask where do you measure the neck at? Tobi's tapers and i saw that Brando's does as well do you measure at the base and not worry about him pulling out of it? or measure at the base of the head so he can't? depending on where i measure i get 15-17inches.

You can never post too many pictures. Let us know if you're able to get those collars shipped to the US. I'm always looking for a good quality collar that's been tested on bullies (that is, one that won't slip off).

Haha! I thought that it was just me that couldn't find a collar that wouldn't slip! I can only walk her on a martingale or a harness. It would be REALLY nice to find a pretty collar and be able to walk her on!

Mottatron, I can't get enough of your boy, so gorgeous! That harness looks really nice, I might have to get one when Sonya gets healthy.

okay i posted a few more pics per requests :P He's so spastic it's very hard to get good outdoor pictures without a telephoto lens on the camera so mostly they are indoors :P

It's my original thread but i updated it at the end.

Aprotopo i have the samw problem, i adjust the collar so it won't slip but then it looks uncomfortable... i was thinking using the weighted one with a martingale attached to the lead so that way he can't slip out if he really wants to.

About shipment, i've contacted the EBAY seller, as well as the Czech seller and i've not gotten any responses :( I don't know Czech so it would make communication very difficult anyways :(
