Bsl...the law...human complacency.

Posted thread on rescue and adoption and had a few remarks about bsl etc as live in Uk where Apbt's are banned. Im willing to try to change Bsl if at all possible and petition to get the law changed but how many other owners, animal lovers or just people in general who think they are humaniterians are willing to stand up and be counted???...just got me thinking about how complacent people can be.

There are a lot of people that love this breed and fight BSL every day, me being one of them. The laws are changing in our favor, but it takes a lot of time and patience. :sonn_u11:

Fighting a law is one thing. Blatantly ignoring the law by breaking it helps no one and only further proves the BSL supporters' theory of APBT owners being criminals.

This.
It's one thing to fight against BSL, it's quite another to knowingly bring in a dog into a situation where they are at risk every day to be confiscated and killed simply for living in an area where they are banned.
Change the laws, then get a dog and prove they were right to get rid of those laws. Getting one while they're illegal just puts you and your dog at risk while reflecting poorly on the rest of us in my opinion.

I wholeheartedly agree with the above comments, blatantly breaking the law doesnt help anybody but in a country where a breed can be destroyed for how it looks and not how it behaves then is it wrong to try to find it a loving home or better to hand it in to be destroyed. One person standing alone defying the law won't help anyone but a million signitures on paper could. All I've said is stand and be counted.

A million signatures, sure. But a million people standing up defying the law are still just a million people breaking the law and being criminals.

Hey Birchy, have you noticed the Europeans on here are more concerned with civil liberty, personal freedom& the pursuit of happiness than we are over here across the pond?Do you think it is from G.M.O.'s ,prozac or riddelin?Ask if they would tern there guns over before there dogs and this thread would sound like your house of commons. They think there guns and m.r.e.'s will protect them from the police state they vote for every November. There simply waiting and longing to kill there neighbor in some perverted self preservation fantasy. It's like a kind of sick and twisted b movie over here.

What I have noticed is with the amount of complacency some people have shown, that if some of history's heroes had shown the same then we'd still have slavery, apartheid and America would still have a British sovereign

Obviously we have a difference of opinion and that's what forums like this are for but in all conscience I would rather be one of the one million breaking the law for what I believe is right than sit back and let a species be wiped out that I love.

What's your small part? Putting a dog in danger of being confiscated and euthanized to prove some ridiculous point? Do you honestly think anyone who actually gives two shits about their dogs would give you one?

Yes because I believe in legally fighting the system, not putting the life of an innocent animal at stake for my personal ideals.

Come on, you can't compare people rebelling against slavery to people rebelling against BSL.

The reason I don't support people breaking the law and having dogs in places that have BSL is because the only one who REALLY suffers is the dog. They're the ones being hidden away and not being able to go for walks and such. They're the ones being put to sleep when they're discovered. And that could've been prevented if the person just got a different breed or moved somewhere without BSL (which I do understand isn't realistic for everyone, especially in the uk). BSL can be over turned by people using legal means. It takes a long time and it doesn't always work but I just feel like it's more reasonable to follow this law while fighting to get it over turned than breaking it in some kind of rebellion and risk having your dog PTS. You may feel sad when your dog gets PTS but he/she is the one that's going to be dead. They don't have a choice, you do. And you're choosing to put their lives at risk.

I'm all for breaking the law if breaking the law actually HELPS. Name one way that keeping a dog illegally helps stop or prevent BSL or even helps the dogs in general.

And pitbull type dogs are in no danger of being wiped out.

Obviously you wouldn't. ..you'd rather take it to be destroyed than break the law. I'm not the one breeding them illegally. ..just trying to find a good home for some of them
