The minimum is 2 because under that and the dog is still maturing... since some lines take even longer breeders of quality worthy dogs will wait.

Just because some BYB off the street asks you to breed your dog doesn't mean he is worthy or should be bred.
This is by no means a dig at you I can see you have come here to learn. I just want to make sure you see the whole picture.

LOL If I bred my boys every time someone asked LOL there would be thousands of pups running around out of mine.

You need to take responsibility for every litter your dog produces whether you own the female or stud doesn't matter.

It is hard finding quality homes who will do the right thing and breeding just to breed and make "cute" pet quality pups is not acceptable in my opinion. There is too much BSL and too many dogs dying in shelters or wasting away while they wait for great homes to be just breeding indiscriminately.

Do the right thing by your dog and if you can't breed the right way or don't want to do the extra work don't breed and get him fixed.
If however you plan to do the things to make him worthy of being bred and do it responsibly than more power to you.

I'm not against responsible breeding but am strongly opposed to BYBs.

Ask a lot of questions... stick around and learn.

    See you around the forum!

Gosh, 8 months is way to young. Just because he is able to breed doesn't mean he should. Just think of it this way just because a 12 year old boy/girl is old enough to have a kid...should they? No. Keep that in mind.

Not only that at 8 months there is a chance that he will not produce any pups......hell at 12 months dogs are known to only have a couple....too early...
Of course, it will always be too early! ;)

    Excellent post!!

Don't become one of these (BYB)!
Just because he "can" doesn't mean he "should".
The fact that you don't know the answer means you don't have the knowledge to be breeding dogs.

Even when your dog is old enough and IF you do choose to breed just think of this: Each pup will have his name behind it along with yours, so that being said choose who you stud him to wisely, because the last thing you want is a female that produces poor pups to be linked to you and your dog specially if you decide in the end to do shows or become a serious responsible breeder. Not only that but with blues people tend to overprice because they know people will pay the money for a blue dog..which is in no means a unique color. No offense to blues cause I have a blue myself

don't worry about all these people telling you not to breed him, because we do need more quality blue dogs in this world !

how's your dog bred? can you post up his pedigree?

I would ask for at least a $2,000 stud fee and first pick of the litter(take a female so you can breed her back to him after her first heat at about 6 mths). Then all you need is a kiddy pool and some towels and you can start your own breeding program. ;)

Just because there are people with females asking you to have your dog breed with their dogs....doesn't mean you should for all of the reasons posted so far....

In my opinion...all of those people with females should be going and getting their little darlings spayed.....

I think its fairly obvious this guy is going to breed his dog. He didn't come on and ask "Should I breed my dog" he said "is he too young to be bred" So dude do what you do.. help contribute to the bad name the breed already has not to mention the over crowded shelters. Give the rescuers another litter to bitch about (no disrespect intended to any rescuers here..ya'll know its just not my thing)... Hope you get a good fat stud fee like Tat said.. a minimum of 2 grand.

Dual registered means nothing, having shots means nothing, and regular vet visits means nothing when it comes to breeding. Asking a forum if a dog is old enough to breed shows lack of knowledge which means you nor that dog should be breeding to anything *******.
