Blue Merle JRT

I was shocked to see a MERLE jrt, breeders are calling them rare? I imagine they REALLY mean they are mutts?

Yeah, It's pisses me off, since my breed of choice other than bully breeds is JRT. I have 2 working Jacks right now, bet these mutts couldn't keep up.

They are cute, have no clue on their color genetics so can't really comment on that. I would take the one in the last picture. The top is cute too, but I don't like the nose, but it could get more pigment as it matures. I like merle colored dogs. Used to want a Catahoula until I helped transport one and ended up having to keep him for 3 days b/c of a tornado hitting the airport, but he was a nut job and kinda broke me from wanting one although I'm sure they aren't all nutty!

Oh yeah, their rare and that's because good breeders don't breed for Merle. It's like the people I just talked to who ask me if I knew how to groom their "rare" white Schnauzer. Their rare because they are culled.
What could be worse then a deaf Jack!?

Throw Merle into a breed that's already mostly white? I can only imagine the deaf and blind "JRTs" now.

Nice.

God. First those stupid "puddin Jacks" and now this crap. It's going to be so hard to find a nice JRT at this rate when I can have one in the future.

My thoughts exactly. What's the big deal with merle, anyway? I think the predominantly gray merle patterns, like the dog in the second pic, are kind of ugly.

Fostered a deaf JRT, solid white. Not an issue for me, but I like deaf dogs. My Dogo is deaf, my foster pit bull is deaf. Fostered other deaf Dogos, American Bulldogs, and a Great Dane.

Ditto! My JRT foster was one of the best behaved, most intelligent dogs I have fostered.

I have also fostered deaf dogs, about 6, two of them being Jacks, those little monkey's were some tough customers!
I have nothing at all against deaf dogs, but Jacks that CAN hear can be a challenge. And get this, with both Jacks, the owners AND their vets did not know the dogs were deaf!!!

I find the ones that can hear to be more of a challenge than the deaf ones. The deaf ones paid more attention to me than the hearing ones I fostered. I had one that could hear perfectly and would choose to do what he wanted to anyways. His favorite thing was getting my Dogo Diva to put her paws up on the fence and running up her back to so he could clear the 6 ft fence and I got to spend a good hour trying to catch him. He couldn't even go outside w/o a leash attached, but the deaf ones could run loose in the woods with the other dogs!

Oh and a lot of people have no clue their dog is deaf.

I've gotten several dogs that no one knew was deaf until I got them. Most people will still argue that Casper isn't deaf and he is stone deaf (BAER tested) and I've lived with him for over 8 yrs and I know he can't hear, but he is so smart and observant the average person has no clue.

Yeah, breed for a coat that's a fault in the breed and linked to loads of health issues. Stellar choice.

Edit: Also, I should add that the person you got him from didn't know why a "Pit Bull" would be merle because he's a mutt. There is no such thing as a purebred merle American Pit Bull Terrier.
