    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good books for training/ raising a Pit Bull?

I have a 12 week old Pit Bull pup we adopted from the humane society about a month ago, and we're signed up for puppy classes that start next week, but I just want to make sure we do our absolute best raising him so he's a good ambassador for Bully breeds, so I want to get ahold of all the information I can!

    Thank you very much!

I was immensely helped by "When Pigs Fly" by Jane Killion. Griffin is my first bull breed dog, and that book really helped me understand and work with his personality.

I also greatly enjoyed "Bones Would Rain from the Sky" by Suzanne Clothier, which is not a training book, but is a great book on understanding dogs in a more compassionate and sensitive way.

Both great books. I like anything by Brenda Aloff or Patricia McConnell also. The internet has some great things on it as well. Kikopup has excellent training videos. When Pigs Fly and Puppy Culture have good Facebook pages.

Don't worry about the book being Pit Bull specific. At this age, all pups need pretty much the same thing. There are several good puppy-raising books, but I like this one.

How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With: Clarice Rutherford, David H. Neil: 9781577790761: Amazon.com: Books

This book has been around since 1981 and is in it's 4th edition. Tried and true.
