Benefits of Raw Eggs

Can anyone provide me with some facts that raw eggs are beneficial to dogs? My father does some handyman work for some of our local vets and e-vets and I guess he's told some of them we've been giving Peyton a raw egg or two a week. Apparently, they flipped out and said "major problems are going to occur" or something because of it, and the fact I give him raw turkey necks occasionally is also bad news.

I just want to prove a point to my father that feeding him raw eggs isn't going to kill him, so I'd like some actual facts to back it up, maybe some links or something.

Well, telling most vets that you're feeding ANYTHING raw is going to get that kind of reaction LOL. Let me see if I can find any actual links on the benefits of raw eggs though.

Well I can't cite anything official and we don't make a habit of feeding raw eggs regularly, but all of my dogs have had raw eggs on occasion as well as pieces of raw meat when I'm cooking etc. They have all lived to a ripe old healthy age. They eat recently live raw meat in the wild.

I like to give Lily an egg (whole egg, including shell) after a hard workout, including after flyball tournaments. If I give her too many a week it gives her the runs, so usually no more than 2 or 3 eggs a week.

Okay the dog devoured a nest of baby rabbits, killed a squirrel and has eaten more salamanders than I can count, but god forbid he eats a raw egg?

a vet ive been to hated raw so much that they made a point to add a whole wall of videos and book about how corn is beneficial to dogs. and none of it proved any point other than making me hate it more. lol.

I just always find it funny when my vet (who is my boss) continues to try to convince me that my dog will end up with e.coli or parasites or something from eating raw when all of her fecals come back negative. She can't argue with facts, so we don't argue much ;).

you can tell him my vet told me I can up Goren's to 1 raw egg a DAY and that it was good for him, and he has no problems me giving raw anything (I love my vet :D ) I think as long as your giving heartguard to help with warms then there is no problem. My vet said the egg is great for his skin and a good source of calories for him since I am trying to put weight on him

I was just wondering if anyone had any links to some sites or something that gave actual proof. Unfortunately, if I say "well the people on the internet told me.....", I don't think he's going to take that seriously.

I don't think there are any links.. I checked this AM. However, the "proof" should be that he's still alive and obviously not ill ;)

I can send you Lily's negative fecal results from an independent laboratory documenting her lack of intestinal parasites after eating raw food on a daily basis. That's about all the documentation I got though .

No problem. That is my usual response to people that tell me feeding raw will get peanut and the family sick. So far no one has gotten sick including peanut.

Raw eggs are not bad for your dog. Read through this thread. Like PeanutsMommy wrote, ask why it's bad. Most foods in their raw form are perfectly nutritious and safe for dogs. Very few exceptions. I've had one incident that raw food was a problem in my dogs, and that was because she ate a sock that stopped her up.

turkey necks have been a staple in my dogs diet for years. truthfully an egg a day isn't going to make much difference either way.
