It seems a lot of people who are fiscally conservative want to think the word liberal is equivalent to the plague. If the word feminism were brought into the topic most would probably close the thread and think I was crazier than they already do ;) BUT WAIT!!! :D

My presence on this thread isnt to only educate myself (thank you to the MANY people I have learned so much from) but also to educate others about how everything is not as you may currently assume.

I have been faced with plenty of assumptions in my life but let me ask you just off the top of you head do you consider yourself a liberal feminist? What do you think it means?

It is two words that often hold many negative connotations but I would like you all to honestly answer, there is no wrong answer.

What do you think a womans role in society is then? Should they stay home and cook/clean/have kids? I am not asking if it is acceptable because of course it is but is that the ONLY thing they should do?
  5. mgriff34

well no of course there are lots of things ladies can do. But I guess the question is do you really believe all conservates think that women should be pregnant barefoot chained to the oven

I didnt say conservatives were anything that was my point liberal perspectives and liberal thoughts dont make you NOT conservative in other areas. It seems more that people who ARE conservative are so against anything liberal that even if they agree with the concept simply because the word liberal is connected they may avoid agreeing. It is something I often use for people to open their minds and not assume everything about everyone/everything.

Perhaps I should ask what you think liberal feminism is?
  7. mgriff34

    mgriff34 Puppy

I know you will likely disagree with this but in my opinion liberals are much more close minded and bigioted than conservatives

to be honest i think liberal feminism is an extremist ideology that has gone way to far

It isnt at all, the ONLY thing it means is women are entitled to legal and social equality with men. Learn something new every day dont we :p Dont tell anyone but this makes my husband and many "conservatives" on this board liberal feminists.

Maybe this would give you the incentive to learn more about things we dont understand, I know personally it is one of my recent objectives.

ok how many people do you really think believe that women are not legally and socially equal, at least in the us. In my opinion the current liberal feminist have gone past equality, because that has been achieved. If all you are concerned with is equality then the lib fem label is as important as saying you are an oxygen converter

I am assuming you are a male then  No offense but if you are not a woman you are just assuming. I have personally experienced the horrors that are the current inequality of woman. If you would like some of my examples I dont mind sharing. Also it is the same thing they said when they stopped teaching that women were inferior in the 1800s everyone said whelp guess our job here is done

yeah guys never get screwed. So how many of the last sec of states have been men.

I can find as many pockets of acceptance as I can non, it doesnt mean it doesnt still happen. A good example is a recent thread by tiff- if there are 120 pitbulls in shelters and only 6 have bite history, does that mean a majority of pitbulls bite? nope. Thats like the people who tell me "we have a black president racism is over"

    mgriff34 Puppy

oh if you only count the extremist then you are right the problem will never go away. So as a lib fem do you think all women should be forced to have abortions if an all female board hasn't approved the pregancy like a board member of NOW recommended

---------- Post added at 09:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------

the real question isn't the pockets it is what the majority believes
  14. bostonitis

    bostonitis Good Dog

Again, you are creating your own definition- is that related to social or legal equality or are you over reacting? Also by what you said most people are liberal feminists right?

---------- Post added at 09:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 PM ----------

The pockets are the majority- someone can say they wish all women to be equal and turn around and sexually harass them daily in the work place.

---------- Post added at 10:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ----------

I think you are confusing radical feminism, like radical Christianity, radical animal rights (peta), radical Muslim, radical environmentalism can all be detrimental to the image.

see i disagree most people would agree puppies are cute but the ones that call themselves dog lovers would be considered a diffrent group. by your def yes most would be lib fem but it is the people who define themselves as lib fem who count

you say wish all women were equal as if they are not right now. So what right do you not have that you want

Thank you but too many different subtypes of feminism- to the point I would not agree with some. The basic concept of liberal feminism is social and legal yes, subtypes are irrelevant.

When I am at work wearing a sweater and jeans minding my own business and I have a man come into my office taking pictures of me while I say "inappropriate, do not do that" and he continues, stalks me harasses me, asks sexual questions. Then the head of Human Relations tells me he would love to take me behind the building when I make a complaint, then the head of sales nationally calls me at 2am when he knows we BOTH ARE MARRIED, then the head of sales international tells me he is "sad I am leaving, there will be no more sexy ladies to look at all day" I would say there is a problem. Did I do anything to deserve that you may ask? If wearing a sweater and jeans to work every day, not talking to anyone, and eating lunch at my desk counts sure. I then went to work for a married man who owned several businesses after a year of working with him as the person who ran all of his businesses he took a late night tax episode to come onto me and try to touch me....is that socially appropriate? Social is social, equality is equality...I didnt see any men treated as such. Furthermore, I would say I was treated as a secretary within the company when in fact I managed a multi-million dollar company.
