AN APOLOGY TO BREED BAN ENTHUSIASTS

I'm sorry you are frightened of my dogs and are trying to have them killed because they are pitbulls. I'm sorry you lack the understanding of this breed's true history, gentleness with people, wonderful temperament, intelligence and behavioral conformation. I'm sorry you won't read the ATTS stats regarding our breed's true temperament, putting it in the top four for temperament, scoring better than breeds like Golden Retrievers, and cocker spaniels.

I'm sorry that you side with and protect animal abusers by marking the breed of dog, and not the irresponsibility of the owner. I'm sorry that by your logic I could steal a car, run some people over with it and then you can blame the make of car for the accident, as I walk free.I'm sorry you generalize one breed of dog with one group of people. I'm sorry you can't see the love and determination that many often highly educated, non-criminal and "normal" types of people show towards this breed and the great personal sacrifices that they make to take care of their dog responsibly.

I'm sorry you cannot go into the shelters and see the hundreds of abandoned and abused pitbulls, dying only for the inane "crime" of being born the breed they are. I'm sorry you cannot see the look of disappointment in their eyes as someone walks by their kennel, and refuses to consider adopting them based on an ill educated fear mongering reporter. I'm sorry that you cannot be there when the animal looks at a human for the last time, and in spite of betrayed by all humans they have met, their tail still wags as someone approaches with the syringe of Euthinol.

I'm sorry cannot be there when law enforcement shoots one of your dogs dead inside it's own home in front of the children it mutually loves for simply getting off the dog bed and walking over to say hello with it's tail wagging. I'm sorry you cannot be there to rescue pitbull puppies from a plastic bag in a dumpster, dumped there by someone switching their illegal, and inhumane activities to another, more lucrative breed.

I'm sorry you cannot understand the difference between canine and human aggression, in the way that this breed can. Yes, I'm saying my pitbull is smarter then you.I'm sorry that the medieval witchhunting genetics of intolerance, generalization, and racism make you feel the need to vilify a breed of dog.

I'm sorry that justice, equality, tolerance, common sense are all things you hold dear as a fellow Canadian, and expect from others, but do not yourself offer them towards a pitbull or its caregiver. I'm sorry that you don't take the constructive time to petition changes in the Canadian animal cruelty act, and in the criminal code that would deal out serious punishment to the real animal abusers.

I'm sorry you cannot see the disappointed look on a puppy's face when the people petting it quickly frown, and walk away when you tell them it is a pitbull. I'm sorry you feel the need to terrorize my family and my dogs for crimes we never have and never will commit. I'm sorry you don't have to live in fear of your dog's safety from hysterical, and mentally unstable people trying to inflict all manner of evil upon your dogs.I'm sorry that you cannot see my breed working in some of the best Search and Rescue groups in the world, saving countless lives each year.

I'm sorry our media censors and refuses to print the breed name "pitbull' when in connection with a positive act such as saving a person or child from a burning house, drowning, wild attacking animals, etc. I'm sorry you cannot see the many pitbulls registered as therapy dogs and bringing so much joy to another misunderstood, neglected demographic in our society, the senior citizen. I am sorry you can't see a pitbull kiss a child, step carefully over a kitten, or play in a sunbeam.

I'm sorry you cannot wake in the morning to feel a warm pitbull cuddled next to you in bed, and know that you are their total world, and even if the house caught fire and trapped you, they would stay with you to the end. But, now that I really think about it, I'm not at all sorry you don't own a pitbull--you do not deserve one.

Bravo on the article. I feel the same way. It seems as though those who know the least talk the most. Ignorence breeds contempt. I think those who rally against our breed are the type who will protest anything that is what is popular at the moment. A.K.A. flavor of month. If they couldn't hate what would they do with their time? As they preach ignorance and intolorance we need to educate teach tolence. joflm4

Such a moving article and words so true..........
People are so quick to be judgemental and cast stones, when they either know very little or indeed nothing about the true PB and other BSL,prejudiced breeds, such as Rotties, other Bull-breeds,Tosa's,Dogo Argentino's,etc, etc.
I do not walk down a street, see a person of a different race and culture and assume that they are a threat to either me or my country....I am not a racist and I am not biased towards anybody.....so why should some people be allowed to be racist towards breeds of dogs, just because, some have caused trouble?.......it is an offence in the UK,to be racist and either slander or assault such a person of a different ethnic BUT it is not an offence to issue the death penalty on any dog deemed a PB or PB 'type',a Dogo Argentino,a Japanese Tosa or the Fila Brasileiro, even if it hasn't done anything wrong, other than walk down the street or just look at you.
Sometime's I'm ashamed to be included in a nation of supposedly dog (animal lovers).

God I saw this and wanted to cry. So many of these things are already happening to me. The same people who flocked to Orion at a Pet Store a few weeks ago are now pulling their children away in fear when they see us come inside.

This is by far the greatest breed of dog i have ever encountered. People do not know what they are missing.

I think I have something to add to that. I feel sorry for people who will never know the joy of having a bounding Bully coming to meet you when you come home from work. They greet you as though you have been gone for weeks instead of hours...

I can't sit here and not cry..Because all that was said is true....Being in Dallas and all the laws they want to carry through to inderectly ban this wonderful breed scares me but makes me fight harder to keep my lil girls... I cannot image not living without them. They truly have inspired me to live a healthier life, they really put in practice in my life to not judge anything or anyone before actually knowing them... We cannot let it happen we cannot let america make the biggest mistake of taking away a hero of america!
I thank Rob MCBean for taking the time and writing such inspiring and full of truth words..GOD BLESS and lets keep on the fight for our bullies!

    Are you kidding?

First off let me say that these breeds of dogs are not nice or friendly. To make my point, just go look at the stats. There are just too many attacks by these breeds of dogs to consider them "nice" or "friendly." They are dangerous killers and must be destroyed! There is no socially redeeming quality of these breeds, unless you think chewing off the faces of little children and attacking people is one...then you need to go stay in prison like the state of Texas provides for a first attack. Grow up people!!! These dogs are killers!!! They kill!!! That is all they are good for...intimidating people and killing and maiming people. Responsible people don't own dangerous animals. Therefore, there can be no such thing as a "responsible pit-bull/dangerous dog" owner. It's like saying someone is a responsible drunk drive. Can't happen.

Stick around the forum and read and get educated. The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the most loyal, friendly breeds there are.

Alot of attacks that you read in the newspapers are from MIXED breeds, not pit bulls.

If you can't have an open mind and educate yourself, maybe this is not the right forum for you. You see, we promote this breed and will fight against BSL. The members here have alot of years experience with the american pit bull terrier, so if anyone knows about their temperment, it's the people here on this forum.

Try to have an open mind and read first, before you judge. Thank you.

Ok, you are going to get A LOT of response to this post:mad:. First off, visit some web sites like badrap.org, blessthebully.com, pitspositive.com. Pit bulls ARE NOT human aggressive, they LOVE all people. RESPONSIBLE pit bull owners who sense human aggression in a pit will agree it should be put down, it has bad breeding genes, bad socialization, and probably, a REALLY BAD OWNER!!! These dogs were bred to back down a bull, and yes they have been unfortunately used for dog fighting, but NOT by responsible owners. And even fighting dogs are not human aggressive. The dog handlers had to be able to get into the pit to break up the dogs, if the dog showed any aggression towards the handler, it was put down immediately. I am a fairly educated, white female, 40 years old, have a decent income, drive a nice vehicle... my point is, pit bulls are not owner by only thugs and drug dealers. I have 2 teenagers, and my pit bull has been around my nieces and nephews her whole life, she has never shown any aggression to my kids, relatives, and she lives with 3 cats and 3 mixed breed dogs.... she has never attacked any of them. Actually one of my cats attacks her every time she walks by it, but she gives the cat nothing more than a sniff. Educate yourself with something other than pit bull fighting web sites and you will find more information that these dogs are very people orientated dogs. In the 1800's they were baby sitters. These dogs were trusted around small children, and were very loyal and loving to the children they "baby sat". Yes this breed gets into the wrong hands of really bad owners sometimes, and irresponsible owners do not take care of their dogs and socialize them or be responsible for their dogs actions. The problem is the OWNER of the dog, not the dog itself. Any dog, is the responsibility of it's owner, and it is up to that owner to make sure that dog is socialized, and well trained. Please, visit badrap.org, or pit bull central, and I'm sure you will be given other POSITIVE web sites from others on this forum to check out to get the REAL story on pit bulls, not the drug and thug images you apparently see on tv and movies and make your judgements from that alone. :no2:

I know you are not here right now and maybe you will not read this.

But, can you please tell us why you feel this way, now that you have entered a forum composed of thousands of people who love their pit bull pets? Who, even allow these same pit bulls to sleep with them, play with their children and interact with other animals without incident?

What happened that made you feel this way. If you have an open mind, and willing to discuss, may one of us will end up changing their mind. :)

Look at the statistics? Well, considering there are no real accurate statistics that doesn't make a difference what you find there. Half of dog bites are reported as 'pitbulls' and they're not even accurate. Do they DNA test, NO! You've probably never even been around an American Pit Bull Terrier so your opinion of them is invalid in my mind. You sound completely f'n ignorant just like everyone else who tries to bash this wonderful breed. Get your facts straight, go to a responsible owners home and see how wonderful these dogs truly are. Probably the smartest dogs in the world, easy to train, very loyal....I could go on and on. I thinking I'm wasting time with you because you'll never come back to this forum for a good debate and so we can hear your side. I think it's pretty sad for you to come on a forum with thousands to proud owners who truly love their dogs and bash them and leave without giving your side. I think that says alot about you...

MY DOG IS SMARTER THAN YOU!!!
