It happened to roscoe for a period at about a year and I was pretty worried he got a small patch of thinning hair on top of his head too but it just went away on its own. I thought he might have been chewing on his tail but he wasn't. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yes...many male intact dogs get it. Brando gets it at least once or twice a year. It thins, then it comes back again.
Don't worry about it - it is no problem at all. He's also had that same bald patch on the top of his head since he was a pup.
    Very common in bullies.

You can try using some dandruff shampoo on it. Are you talking alopecia on that stud tail area or otherwise?

My intact boy got this when he was 7 months along with the bald spot between his ears, it is only now growing back and he's 17 months old. I took him to the vet because it looked a bit sore and they said it is very common, some people say salmon oil and listerine help to clear it up but it never helps on my dog.

i went through this and did everything i could to get rid of it, mainly Bowzer had it on the top of his head, i finally gave up after like a year of trying and it vanished.

It's not just intact males: two of our neutered boys have that tell tale patch on their tails and it ain't going anywhere. They've had it for years! Not worth giving a second thought to, unless he starts chewing or fussing at it. :-)

Spud had a bald patch on the top of his head for for several months at around 1 year old. he also has a bald patch on his tail which comes and goes.
  10. Just found this thread. Do y'all have pics to reference?? I'll see if I can get Shiner to stay still for me to get a quick pic. He has this spot near the base of his tail, where it looks as though the hair is parted? I'll have to get a pic to explain. I wonder if it's stud tail. There's no hair loss though, the hair is just growing like its parting itself. Wierd.
