Annoying Bully Stick Behavior

I didn't know whether to put this in health or behavior - but I finally got a video of it and I want to know if other people's dogs do this with their bully sticks...

She drives me CRAZY - she insists on "stripping" it and pulling off honkin' big pieces that I always worry she'll choke on or swallow whole and get an obstruction.

So obviously - we supervise her when she has chews and so the above can't happen...but...why does she have to make my life so stressful? Why can't she just chew the damn bully stick like a normal dog? Do normal dogs strip their bully sticks??

Are you implying that the lovely Miss Veronica is normal?
My dogs don't strip their bully sticks. During the length of that video Rosie would of had hers half gone. She lays down, hold it between her front paws and chews away. A 12" stick won't last her 15 minutes.

I would just make sure that she only chews on them when you can observe.

Now for an off-topic question. It appears that her ears are naturally pointy. My boy has the same ears. Any idea on the specific breed or mix of you sweetie?

^^^ OOOOH yeah, that's what she's implying alright!!! I've never bought them, but I think I will get one. Just out of curiosity of course, because....ewwww! If it's anything like a tennis ball, Buddie can skin one in about 3-5 minutes.

Kimba the same, here all the tennis balls and noisy rubber toys are up all the time and she have them only under supervision.

Well...no  We've rather given up on normal where V. is concerned. But I was wondering if this was an original V. behavior created purely for the purpose of torturing me...or if it was "a thing". Iposted on FB and one of my dog friends said she had a couple who were "strippers" as well.

Yes, she only gets them under supervision - it's just annoying "hands on supervision" because when she starts striping, I end up taking it from her and cutting the strips off so she can't swallow them (and then giving it back)...which is all nice and slimy and gross.

    V. does have very expressive ears. They are so funny the way they swivel like antenna when she is listening to something. She came from Ginny York; you can google York Kennels if you want to see her dogs.

If you get one we recommend the 3 footers...more of a challenge

It's not the supervision that I mind - it's the annoying slimy grossness of it. Like I'm certain other dogs just chew the stupid thing; V. makes it her mission in life to make work for me

Iris occasionally strips them. Seems like it's usually when she's not in a real mood for chewing because she buries it in her sandbox shortly after.

Jazzy, you and I both know I'm not in my right mind and your's is questionable at best. So you'll appreciate it when I tell you every time you say 3 footer, in my mind I see Wayne & Garth......Sha-wing! Please stop. Now for your recommendation of a 3 footer ( Sha-wing), ummm, NO! Just triple EEWWWWWWWW.

I can't even seriously respond to that here. See FB.

My GP holds it down with one of his feet and "strips" it like Veronica, or he'll just lick it and not chew it at all! Depends on the day I guess :lick:

Too funny! Now..this is the first..well maybe not the first but one of the first times I have heard of bully sticks..what are they are where do you get them? My dogs would love these!

Well fandt94, they are a dog treat made from bulls penises, available at most pet stores or on-line. Aren't you glad you asked?! :lolbangtable:

That's why Lillie Mae's got her head in the Sha-wing.

Thank you! I really am curious if it's sort of a common behavior - because I never saw it before. I was really convinced it was something Veronica came up with just to drive me crazy!!

Now I'm more in a family guy, "diggity, diggity" type mood. I was going to ask you if you gave Miss V. the 12 inch (diggity) ones, but I noticed she appeared to be chewing that length (want some candy little girl) in the video. It would (she said wood!) appear V doesn't care what the length of her stripping toy is. :sonn_u11:

She may not have come up with it but she just might be trying to make you crazy!
