Today was Rikki's first time running at her regular height and in both jumpers and standard classes (novice). She did great in jumpers, took everything w/o missing a beat, she was just a bit slow/unsure of the people. Ended up with a 2nd place (behind my trainers fiancé with a puppy out of trainers AWESOME Border Collie)
Then in standard, she was AWESOME, really starting to move (still MUCH slower than class, but tons of improvement!). Took the broad jump, which she's only seen a handful of times, AND the tire, which is not her favorite jump. AND ended up with a 1st place!

Frankie was great in standard, but with the long, hot day, she was DONE before jumpers and was over time, so no Q for her.
Got one video, Rikki in her novice standard class.

I can't get the video to play. I want to see new, improved Rikki.

These are all the photobucket links, one of them should work.

She did great on Sunday as well, 1st place in jumpers and while SHE was clean in standard, I caused a fault, so she didn't Q.
She has the speed in class, so it will come at a trial when she gets more comfortable. This is a HUGE improvement over a few months ago.

She's doing so well. And you are really doing well by her, you are very encouraging, and you can see her respond to this. Great work.

    Thanks!
She really loves agility, which helps. But then, if she didn't like it, we wouldn't do it with her.
She was pretty nervous with the judge in standard on Sunday (nobody liked him, so I can't blame her!), she ran with one eye on him the entire time, but she still did everything and had happy moments. Just a couple months ago, she would have made a beeline for the tunnel, then ran for the exit. So this was HUGE for her. :-)

She's looking good! I agree, you can really see her respond to your encouragement, it's awesome. She seems to have the precision down well!

I imagine it's easier to get precision first, then work on speed, than to try and reel in the speed a bit to work on precision? But maybe that depends on the dog and the trainer in question?

I love hearing/reading about people like you and your trainer who work with the dog at hand and let the dog set the pace, especially with a softer and/or more timid dog. My previous girl was very much a dog who forced me to think outside of the box and listen to her for what worked, so I guess I have a particular appreciation for someone who handles such dogs so well.

I really commend your approach otherwise, as well. Agility is something that, by and large, is still pretty new to me: I'd love to try it out, I'm just not in a great area for finding an agility trainer. But behavior and training/training theory and practices I'm well familiar with, plus kind of a nerd about, and I basically nodded my head as I read what you typed about your and Rikki's journey thus far in this. I love how you've approached building her confidence, and that you're clearly enjoying the journey opposed to getting frustrated at all. Sounds like you have a fantastic working relationship and base for her agility career, and that's awesome!

Thank you Noah George. It's nice to hear when people understand why I go so slow with Rikki. I've had people at trials ask why she isn't further along than she is and they just don't get it.
My trainer is awesome, she's been competing since she was like 5 or 6, been on several world teams, attends seminars all over, and started judging (USDAA) trials at 13 years old! She's also an assistant coach for One Mind Dogs based out of Finland. They have a great website that covers a lot of their agility teachings. You can sign up and get pretty detailed instruction.

I'm doing a One Mind seminar next week w/Wip, w/Anna Eifert. She runs a mini-bull terrier, so she's extra awesome.

Very cool! I think she was at the coaches week training that Megan went to a couple months ago.
