I wanted to add about bullies though, in their defense in regards to performance...
There are alot of bullies that kick @ss in the weight pull event! Maybe not pound for pound, but there are bullies that are pulling massive weights. Attribute that to the larger breed influences, but I must give them that. If you ever want to persuade someone to leave bullies alone for the traditional gambred dog...I do not suggest you go to a weight pull contest because you will most likely be starting over! Just my observation.

Owning a APBT when i was younger in the 80's so i know she was a fullblood APBT and know having a Bully im happy with both. And as far as breeding for purpose, honestly whats the purpose of a chihuahua? Dont get me wrong, i love chihuahuas i had one. my parents have 2 girlfried has one. But what is their "Purpose" except to be a family pet? They have no other purpose than that. People are making all kinds of crazy dogs. They are breeding everything with a poodle and registering them. Bullies have APBT running through their veins. So i feel they are still part of the family. that's just my $0.02

Wouldnt this make Baby Jesus Cry???

But im sure his family loves him very very much. I wouldn't make him that way, however i'd adopt him and not judge anyone for doing it.

chihuahuas where bred to be the smallest dogs..dont get me wrong even in american bullies some look good and like mentioned excel in weight pulling..your dog is not going to look like the dog above..that dog can get a heart attack taking a crap..and so could that child..i have nothing against bullies..as long as people know what they are and dont call them what there not..and i think they should shoot the parents of that poor child..i would hate to feed either one.

I do know that when im walking her and am told she is a pit, i will definatly correct them. and get into that 5-10 mins conversation of the difference. Because that will ultimatly help in her socilization having to sit and be around people while im talking.

But you can't be mad at the breed cause of how it looks or raised. Because whomever does that is being hypocrytical. "Hate the deed, not the breed" right?!?!?

I plan on feeding a RAW diet to an American Bully. So im going to get it from everywhere. The vet to the lady down the street who might be walking by while seeing my lil baby going to town on 1lb section of beef heart. that doesn't mean im a bad person but i will have people not being to pleased with me. But that shouldn't reflect on the pup.

So heres a question, do they have a tendency toward fear issues?
I didn't have time to read through the RE info thats posted.

I'd bet Sparky is a good portion, if not totally, American Bully... I'd even bet thats why he has some brindle in his blue coat and super wrinkly jowls (mastiff anyone?)... That and he's a little tall for pure APBT or AmStaff.

the color brindle has nothing to do with american bullies.. you can have a brindle coat in a apbt, amstaff, sbt, cane corso, mastiff, dutch shepherd, boxer, corgi.. its just a color....

Honestly, I don't have enough experience with bullys to tell you if they have more fear issues than any other breed. From everything I've gathered, she was bred from a female with temperament issues, so it's was directly genetic with her. I've heard a lot of people...even those who detest American Bullys, that most have a pretty even temperament. The issue is that people are calling them APBT's, and they simply aren't.

 Yeah I kinda made myself sounds like a dumbass, didn't I. I don't know why I even said that since I've read enough breed standards and info around here and etc to know better.:blush:

Exactly. I called Sparky an APBT until I finally met some full blooded ones at the shelter and they were much smaller than he is. It was like having the proverbial lightbulb go on in my head.

I have no idea if his fear issues are genetic for sure, but given his background its pretty obvious it was a backyard breeding of not the soundest animals.

That is such CRAP.. they just got a mouth full of chocolate about game dogs and look at this:

    (cant see the other dog)

And there are plenty of videos of that, facing off dogs at the shows.

I really do have a problem with the owners of these dogs, because no dog should have to live in pain to make his owner "proud"

    This dogs are breeding disasters.

  14. screamin'eagle

    screamin'eagle Good Dog

I agree breeding disasters. Health problems such as hip and elbow dysplasia, breathing problems, etc.

Looking at the dogs above can someone really deny with any credibility the influence of other breeds? Influences of Mastiffs, English Bulldogs, etc are plainly obvious to me. The more generations that pass the more it becomes apparent. The ABKC could not have come sooner for the American Bully or the APBT. It's time for owners to start making the difference apparent to JQP for the good of both breeds.

im glad this is happening finally, now maybe the "thug" type guys at the convenience store wont look at me funny when they ask what kind of dog cheeks is and i reply APBT!

it was getting to the point where the younger generation of americans thought these short bassett hound looking shi%^ were the real deal.

as a different breed i think most of these american bullies look nice , and its possible that one day i could even own one (as a lap dog for my wife). But your right those pics above are disasterous. And passing one off as a true APBT has always been offensive in the back of my head....but i kept my mouth shut.

just by reading that I was going to guess you lived near Memphis...then I mapquested Milan lol. For some reason city types like bullies more, and rural folks stay true...in general. Have you seen this thread...

I guess that'd be about a 2.5 hour drive for you, and I'd like to see you there.

I think that has a lot to do with Rap/Hip Hop. The bully seems to be the dog of choice among the artists, and are featured in their music, videos, album artwork etc. Just my opinion

Like most things in the materialistic music industry world, bigger is better. ABs have replaced the big gold chains of the RUN DMC era.

I'm just glad it's finally out that these are not true APBTs. I am getting sick of people telling me my boy must be a runt! And he's even on the big side, at 55 lbs.

pit4life, i didnt say ALL the dogs are less DA, i said he was breeding to lessen the DA.... just because there are dogs that are facing off doesnt mean all of them do...
