It depends on the event. The event I had my two dogs test at was free for the test. Then you mail in the paperwork and pay $8 for the certificate. Starting in Janruary, if you can make it a title by sending in $20 (this is what I am doing).
  3. Abbi and I are in training now but I have a question about the stranger holding the dog for 3 min.... do they just stand there and gold the dog or can they walk around?

They just stand still and hold the dog. At least that's what they did for all of my dogs tests.

They typically stand still and do not interact with the dog.

When I did the CKC CGN the handler talked to my boy a little bit, but that was it.

My boy took the test and passed, but we had to rethink how to do the ignoring another dog part. The tester should have a neutral dog as the helper, but instead she took out a dog that was hyper and super excited and wanted to meet my dog, which I didn't think was fair, so she gave us two tries on that part. It's a good test and should be really easy to pass if your dog is well-behaved and trained. The therapy dog test is much more difficult though.

The neutral dog when we got ours was doing the same, he was wiggling and bowing, luckily BBernie ignored him.

Just wanted to add: the supervised sep for 3 min is with a "trusted person" it does not have to be a stranger, (the sit politely and meet friendly stranger part must be a stranger). This means basically you can have someone the dog knows, but not someone who spends lots of time with dog, or is related to you if they see you all the time, and if they did your classes you can not be the starnger. I had a brother of a tester hold the dog, because the brother only visited once before 6 months earlier, and he was only there, (stayed at hotel not home of dog) for 2 days. The holder will be ok to interact with the dog, it's just not suppose to be "excessive"(this is under interpretation of the evaluator) or to get the dog "under control" or "redirected to stop <barking, pulling, howling etc>...This is suppose to test will the dog maintain their manners if left for 3 min while the handler goes out of sight.
The stimulas dog for the "reaction to another dog" is suppose to be neutral as possible, not excited or not under control themselves. I am sorry the evaluator did not follow protocol. I would check for another evaluator to take the test again.
