Abnormal fixation on females in heat

Let me start by saying I certainly know he needs to be neutered… but I’m asking if this is typical or if he may have a deeper issue here. On any normal day, Canaan is very obedient, docile, and friendly yet reserved. He enjoys his walks and ropes and playing with the other dogs, not a highly driven fella but a good friend to have around if someone wants to break in. However, if a female is in heat, he goes ape s*#&@. Doesn’t want to walk, eat, play rope or do scent work…. And has broken 3 windows trying to get my bitch. She doesn’t want him, and has unleashed an uninhibited nasty bite drawing blood and ripping flesh and it only stopped him for about 30 minutes.
I rescued him because the last owner was gonna have him euthanized over this.
So how concerning is this? He cares about NOTHING ELSE if a bitch is in heat. His old owner bred him several times

Get the dog neutered.
That’s… not what I’m asking

I’m asking if this is typical of the animal to other individuals who have owned a morphologically similar animal, because if it is atypical, neutering will not actually stop his propensity to abnormally fixate on things but rather make the behavior manifest itself unexpectedly through another outlet. I would like to avoid any surprises, be prepared for everything, but I don’t know anyone in my personal life who has enough experience with similar animals to ask about this

If a female dog is in heat, a male dog will go crazy to get to the female. If you want to avoid any surprises the neuter your male dog. If your dog is usually calm and only gets crazy when a female dog is in heat, the way to fix that is get the dog neutered. He's only fixated on the female when she is in head, according to your post, then the way to fix that is get the male dog neutered.

It’s entirely normal for some male’s to go weird obsessing over gyp on heat. Personally I wouldn’t neuter to fix a problem like this. Have known stud dogs do all sort of strange things when around gyps on heat. One thing I do often, although not a cure is to work the ass of him, so he’s to knackered to do much else but sleep. He’ll eat when he’s hungry I wouldn’t worry. Also watch your gyp, she may not want him now but at a certain times during their heat cycles some gyps get just as randy as males and do stupid shit to get bred.

Pretty normal for an intact male. She not wanting him means nothing to him. It's biological and chemical and the male pretty much can't help it.
