50 lb wrecking ball in NW FL

I am the Dog Adoption Coordinator at a small no kill shelter in NW Florida, Pet Welfare. We are located on a military installation and have been running for 32 years. About 1 year ago, I responded to a message from an airmen needing to place a "Ridgeback" mix that day as he was leaving the following morning. The dog that previously lived with his ex who dumped him at a local county shelter and skipped town. He got wind of it and adopted the dog, knowing he had no where for him to go. I agreed to take him in as I had am empty kennel and our main priority is to take in dogs and cats from active duty members.

Bama is obviously not a Ridgeback mix as anyone can see, no matter how vehement his former owner was. Bulldog X, Terrier X, Pit X-take your pick. I refer to him as a Wrecking Ball. He is 50 lbs of high octane fun (for the right owner). Although he gets walks and play time in the yards, a kennel environment is not ideal for Bama. He needs someone who can run him into the ground on a daily basis and work with him on basic obedience. He is a sweet dog and good natured but easily overstimulated. Bama cannot go to a home with cats or other small animals as he has high prey drive. We have taken him to adoption events and with proper introductions and walks beforehand he was got along well with the other dogs-big and small. He does have some resource guarding issues with chews and bones so I think it would be best for him to be a solo pet, unless that is something the new owner is positive they can work through. He previously lived with a 4 year old but given his lack of manners and energy, older children are best. I think he'd make a great sports dog or a companion for someone active-running, hiking etc. He comes pretty close to jumping over my shoulder and I'm a little under 6 ft so he should not be unsupervised in a backyard. I am reaching out to this forum because this is one the places that seems to understand dogs like Bama the best. I'm confident that once he is out of a shelter environment and gets consistent handling, he will be an amazing companion.

He is almost two years of age, approx 50 lbs. Neutered and up to date on shots and on heartworm and flea preventative. His adoption fee is $50. I will consider out of state adoptions for the right family. Home checks and vet references may be required. Adoption applications are available upon request. The main things we required is that our dogs go to homes where they will be inside companions (not live outside) and be kept on heartworm preventative.

If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to answer. My email address is: tea.el.gee@gmail.com for those that want to privately discuss him.
