B14DA846-7DA5-409A-9D1C-71C9E43E1165.jpeg There’s so much info to give about Dozer. He just turned 2 yrs old in October. We adopted him at 3 months of age. From that time on he has suffered through lots of allergy issues. It took awhile but finally found a food that didn’t make him break out in hives. He’s currently eating Earthborn Alaskan Pollock and Pumpkin because it seemed as though beef and chicken ingredients were a culprit but we have not done allergy testing. I don’t know if he gets enough fat or balance in his diet. He eats 3-4 cups of food a day but recently his spine and hips are protruding. I don’t know if it’s an awkward phase in growing but I’m concerned. We don’t give him any people food or treats as he would often get a reaction. It’s a bland, regular diet but he often suffers from major stomach issues. Probably 1-2 days a week I’m woken up during the night because his stomach is gurgling so bad. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but it’s definitely disturbing to see him like that. On those days he chooses to skip 1-2 meals even though it’s left out for him. He doesn’t get diarrhea or vomit, it just seems to go away. I thought about introducing some human food to help with balance and antioxidants but I started small with some cooked egg. Next day his stomach was gurgling and he didn’t eat but that probably would have happened even without eating any egg. He’s cold all the time. We had to get him a fleece sweater to wear because he was always cold and looking to get under a blanket. His feet bleed if he plays in the snow for too long. He breaks out in a rash if he’s in the grass for too long. He doesn’t play much. He’s always calm and mellow and so loving. I’m totally obsessed with him and constantly worrying about him and I’m not sure what’s going on. We’re seeing the vet tonight but just thought I’d reach out now. Thanks for any help you can give me!

He’s laying in an odd position but this was from last night. Our other Amstaff’s never had such a small frame so I don’t know if it’s normal or if he’s just growing so proportionally he’s off. Last time we had him at the vet he was 70 lbs.

Can you post a side view picture?

You can add some plain yogurt into his diet. That might help with his stomach issues.

You can add some probiotics in his diet (plain yogurt). This might help with his stomach issues.

He definitely has not filled out yet. The family that adopted his sister said she’s built like a tank already and I know Dozer’s father was over 100 lbs. But I worry Dozer is just not healthy. He spends 90% of his day snuggled up sleeping and watching and relaxing. We don’t have any other dogs or pets in the house for him to play with. But, when he goes to the sitters house if we go away he said Dozer is very active with other dogs. He seems happy, just mellow. He wants to be snuggled and kissed all the time.

Any particular kind or brand? How often? And how many times do I give it to him until I know if it’s ok or not?

I would give a teaspoon mixed in with his food to start, plain. Also, is he up to date on bloodwork, etc...at the vet?

    He might enjoy a flirtpole:

Your dog inherited more of the pit bull blood than his sister. His father being over 100 lbs shows there was some breed crossing back in his line. This will cause the wide difference in the pups.
He is in very good shape right now. If he was heavier than the 70 lbs he would be too fat.
His build is more like the pit bull side of the family and does not need to be any fatter.

Just curious - what is the protein/fat content of the fish-based food you are feeding?

And I suppose he was neutered by 3 months if you adopted him?

I would have to look up the date to tell you for sure but he was not neutered prior. I believe he was 9 months old when we neutered him.

Well, that’s not as bad as 12 weeks, but he may not ever “fill out” like an entire male. So much is taken from them when neutered as a puppy.
His coat looks fine. I personally like more fat in my dogs diet, but that’s probably enough.
You might have to get a referral to a dermatology specialist if he continues to have problems.

Any thoughts on his gurgling stomach?
