| We have two local clubs here, one north of me and one pretty close according to the ADBA website. Sucks though because the close one does not have a website or email contact and doesnt seem active, the one up north seems more so. Anyways, can someone explain to me in a nutshell how these shows work? Also the points system and what judges are/aren't looking for? Also, what makes a good club? Are their certain colors/sexes that win? Sorry for all the random questions, but inquiring minds want to know. ![]() |

| Thanks Diva. It seems a little sad that there are very few ADBA clubs here in the west. Say if I had a dog that I was showing and I needed to travel to shows... there are NO clubs in Idaho, Montana or any bordering close state to where I am. All I can find is the Oregon one and the Washington one and they only have 2 shows a year and thats not per club, it seems they hold their shows together. So instead of being able to CH a dog in a year lets say.... from what I am reading around here it will take about 3? ![]() |

The point system is as follows: puppies 1st 5 pts 2nd 3 pts 3rd 2 pts If your dog places over 10 dogs in it's class then the pts would be 8,5,and 3 instead of what is listed above. So for all 3 dogs that place to get the extra points you would have to have 13 dogs in the class....(see 3rd place would have beat 10 dogs that way) The classes are 4-6 month, 6-9 month, and 9-12 month. Females and Males in separate classes. All puppies that win their class compete in Best Puppy of Show. So there will be 6 total pups 3 male, 3 female. The best puppy trophy is worth 10 points. The best puppy also gets to compete in the best of show at the end of the day. The adult classes are as follows: 12-18 month 18-24 month 2-3 years 3-5 years 5 and over Once again males and females compete separately. The points are 10 1st 5 2nd 3 3rd If you place over 10 dogs the points would be 15, 8, and 5. All first place dogs compete in best of show at the end of the day...except only the best puppy of show is the only puppy that gets in. There will be 11 total dogs in Best of show. A best of show and best opposite sex trophy are awarded. Most of the time a male wins best of show, but not always. Whatever sex wins best of show, the opposite sex will win the best opposite. So basiclly it's best male, best female of the show! Best of show is worth 15 points, best opposite is worth 10. Then there is the champions class. Males and females compete together here. There are no extra points no matter how many dogs are in the class. First place gets the cup, second and third get ribbons. The points are as follows: 1st 15 points 2nd 10 points 3rd 5 points As far as what makes a quality club......well some people think it's quantity, but I think it's quality members. Maybe you should look at starting one in your area???? The ADBA can provide you with all the info you need. I know it sucks to have to travel, but there's lots of folks that go a loooooooooong way to make it to shows. The west coast definitely has the least amount of shows though which sucks for you! You would think with the ADBA being located in Utah they would press for more clubs out that way. Hope that helps. If there is anything else you need holler. Oh and don't count on it taking 3 years. There is 1 dog that championed in 1 weekend! It was in the Gazette! 4 show weekend and the dog won it's class and Best of Show all 4 times! Champion in 1 weekend! The 6x Gr. Ch. Matthew that Bronson has to compete against championed in 2 weekends! A good dog can do it fast if you win yourself a best of show or 2! Ask Dtwo.....she has Bronson's littermate brother and he won 2 best of shows. I am not completely sure how many shows they attended before he championed but it wasn't a whole lot! |
