Mok and Lai, both six, were part of a six-month program initiated by His Majesty the King where street dogs are trained to become police dogs. The duo's nose for sniffing out smuggled drugs earned them respect and admiration. They were even awarded the Khun Tong Daeng prize for their outstanding work.

However, police were forced to sack the two mutts after passengers began to complain as they also "liked to pee on luggage while searching for drugs inside" as well as sexually accost female passengers, said Pol L/C Jakapop Kamhom. "They were stray dogs so their manners were worse than those of foreign breeds."

The two reformed street dogs have been replaced by two new foreign sniffer recruits, while the randy mutts were packed off to a chicken and pig farm.

However, police say Mok and Lai are content with their new life. "It seems they have won back the freedom they enjoyed as street dogs again," Pol Senior Sgt-Maj Santirat said.

Just goes to show, you can take the dog out of the street, but you can't take the street out of the dog...
