 Cedar Rapids, IA-City-No BSL in Ordinance City won't single out pit bulls in ordinance CEDAR RAPIDS - The city will not change its dangerous animal ordinance to treat pit bulls differently than other breeds of dogs, City Manager Jim Prosser said Friday. Council member Justin Shields had asked Prosser and the city staff to look into a breed-specific ordinance after as many as three pit bulls killed a small dog in March. On Friday, Prosser said the city’s research found that breed-specific laws are ineffective and that the city’s ordinance has adequate controls. ‘‘Unfortunately, you’ll never be able to prevent vicious animals,’’ he said. ‘‘But we believe we have incorporated into our ordinances the best practices that are available.’’ http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pb.../NEWS/70609009  |
