Personally I would not encourage that behavior until he is older and the joints are better developed

Easiest way is to lure him with a treat when he is in a sitting position to go up

When you do plan to; one way is put him on a corner of a wall, and this you can also teach him to beg. Tell him to sit and then raise a treat in front of his nose and give him your command it will take some time but he will start to raise his two front feet up and putting him by the wall he wont fall back. Repetition and lots of praises..
Even if he tries praise him..
By the time you know it he will stand and even sit on his legs and beg.

be careful teaching them stand up (dance on hind legs), or beg/sit pretty before you teach basic things like, sit, down, stay, walk nice, leave it, drop it, off (don't jump on things/humans).
They will give you stand up on almost anything you ask for, and end up ON ppl.
I have ppl teach their dog this then come into class saying he won't learn sit, because they lure the dog and as soon as they put the treat out and near the dog, up they go, then trying to break this bad habit is much harder, or ask for sit and sit pretty is what you get, you have to wait for the feet to get back on the floor, which may take a while.
I had a few dogs do this so much they had flat butt's because of doing it so much and for long periods of time, you get anything resembling a treat or if they think is a treat and they sit there staring in a sit pretty position.
Did you take Rex to classes? or is that some other member of the forum?...
FYI:I teach stand but it's for them to stand on all 4 legs so you can brush them off or wipe off back feet or take temp, those types of things, dance is teaching them to go up on hind legs and dance around balancing on their hind legs, and sit pretty or beg is sitting on butt and upper body is balanced upward.

I can't imagine Apollo doing that. The best I get is "hugs" where he stands up and puts his paws around my hips, and i give him some lovins...Im LMAO trying to picture him standing in my mind. Good luck with Rex.
