This bill has passed the senate and is going to the house for a vote. If passed we cannot own a carpet mill, a spring pole, a leather collar more than 2 inches wide, or a breaking stick. I am already in violation. I have written my representative a letter and called his office in opposition. Please do the same.

Thank you for writing me regarding Oregon's dog fighting law. I appreciate hearing from you.

I highly condemn the practice of dog fighting because I believe it is a raw form of cruelty to animals. I also understand that, until now, Oregon's law enforcement officials did not have the sufficient tools to thoroughly investigate and crack down on those who finance and watch dogfights or possess dog fighting materials.

This session, I supported Senate Bill 1072, which defines the acts of advertising or otherwise offering to sell dog fighting equipment and the possession of dog fighting paraphernalia as Class C felonies. That bill now awaits Governor Kulongoski's signature.
