Default Kennewick Considers Pit Bull Ordinance

KENNEWICK -- Richland, Pasco and Kennewick already deems pit bulls as potentially dangerous animals. The current law in Kennewick requires pit bull owners to carry a permit. If the pit bull attacks, the city classifies it as dangerous.

Kennewick officials are now considering if a judge will get to decide the fate of pit bulls that are repeat offenders.

"If we have an animal that's multiply attacked a person, we need to have something in place where the animal could be put down. But who makes that rule? That's why it'll be presented to a judge and the judge will decide," Tri-City Animal Control Director Angela Zilar said.

The proposed ordinance would also allow residents to have bobcats as pets.
