Wow... That one with the four EBT's, they have an almost Dobermann-ish look to their heads. Quite a change to the "eggheads" we see nowadays. Do you think it will ever go back to the old style and/or should it? __________________

I would say that we will never see them again as they used to look. They also appear to be much stockier and more compact now than they were a century ago when they seemed to look leaner and more athletic.

I've posted these before, but since its applicable here... Here is a study of bull terrier skulls, and the changes that have occurred since the 1930's (1st pic) 1950's (2nd pic) and the 1980's (3rd pic) ![]() Of course there changes occured when the Bull Terriers main work (dog fighting, and large animal baiting) went away and show breeders tried to idealize working qualities. Thus, a long punishin jaw as per an old breed standard become overdone in the show circle. On the other hand a direct working descendant bred for working abilities does still exist today. The Hinks Bull Terriers were exported to Pakistan where they are still used primarily for bear baiting (and dog fighting) today. Here is a picture of a Hinks descendant Gull Terrier from Pakistan... ![]() and on of a more standard Gull Terrier... ![]() Both still carry the more punishing long jaws, and athletic bodies that were passed on by their ancestors as depicted in the original post. (BTW JP Colby also exported alot of dogs to Pakistan, and there is also alot of ABPT influence in some lines of Gull Terriers as well!)

The Dalmation type is still quite alive and well in the south florida area. We get many of them that come into our rescues. Also small size dogs that are of the dalmation type - difficult to tell if they are mini or not. __________________ Joe Morweiser, Director SFBTRL Inc. all volunteer 501(c)3 public charity) www.jbullterr.com Moderatorwww.pitbull-chat.com Bull Terrier area. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FLDRL
