Default Pit bull hair...?

Sorry this question may seem ignorant...
Okay, a couple of months ago I had 2 pit bulls stolen from me in my front yard. I have put fliers everywhere, contacted police, everything. Since then I have gotten a new puppy. Now then, I was out walking my new pup and I'm pretty sure that I spotted my old puppy. He was like 4 months old when somebody took him, and he was born in July so he has gotten bigger. The guy who might have stole him had him tied up outside with no food or water, said he goes there every other day to take care of him. Anyway, the question is... this dog has a sortof fluffy coat. His markings are identical and everything, but my dog was a registered pit bull and I've never heard of them having any sort of a fluffy coat. I mean it was just sortof cottony underneath if you can understand what I'm saying. The guy is saying he's a lab, but I've never heard of a blue lab either. I don't know if pit bulls get a winter coat, or maybe it had something to due with him being a puppy plus being outside in the cold weather.

Again I apologize for my ignorance, but that was my first pit bull and I don't know what to think about the whole situation. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That stinks that your pup was stolen.

Was your pup from a reputable breeder or BYB? If from a BYB he could have been mixed even if you got paperwork on the pup.

I've never seen a purebred Fluffy coated APBT nor have I seen a "Blue" lab

Do you have picts of the pup before it was stolen to compare to this pup? or was he microchipped. Those would be the only things that could help you IMO. If you have proof it is your pup I'd contact the police ASAP, before the guy hides the pup somewhere else

Please make sure not to leave your new pup unattended as it sounds like you do not live in a safe area

I hope you figure out whether the dog is yours or not. But whether the dog is yours or not; it should not be tied up without food and water with the owner only checking on it every other day. How can you take care of any living creature every other day. Sorry, but it got to me.

I agree. Even if this is not your pup AC should be called in to help him

I contacted the police the same night and animal control does currently have the dog. The police are doing absolutely nothing in the case... The other guy doesn't have pictures/papers, anything really. And there's a lot of other circumstantial evidence that I won't go in to. But yeah, I think it's pretty shitty too that he just left the dog there with nothing. When the cop asked him about it he replied "It's not my fault he knocks the water over". Not a very responsible owner really... I dunno what to do, it's very frusterating. I had an apt for the dog to get microchipped, paid a deposit and everything, then he got stolen so... I lost out on the deposit... His markings look exactly like my dogs though. They're talking about possibly doing a DNA test, but how much does that cost, and how long does it take?

I got my pup from Florida in August and he grew a fluffy winter coat this winter in Michigan. It almost looks like down feathers - all soft and fuzzy, not long-just thick. He is 100% purebred with DNA proof of parentage. Hope this helps.

you're not the only person who is concerned about fluffy hair. i have a 7 week old pitbull, so the previous owner said, and his fur is a little bit more fluffier than the other 2 pits i raised. His fur coat is dark brindle but just a tad bit fluffier than normal. When i got him i met both parents but there was a lab next door. So i wasn't sure if he was part lab or not. the previous owner told me the mother pitbull accidently got pregnant. Despite, he may be part lab, i do hope he is all Pitbull when he grows. He's got no papers, but that's ok with me. He's the cutest thing i've seen.

My girl Nautica gets like a peach fuzz type fluff in her fur when its cold out. Then she sheds like hell and she's back to the normal short Pit hair. The fuzz is very short and soft to the touch, just really thick.

It makes perfect sense really. Mine are BOTH smooth short coat dogs, so I would imagine that yep, you have a lab/pit bull mix.

Actually, your pretty lucky if your a renter. If your have a Lab mix, as opposed to a Pit Bull, your life will be MUCH easier on SO many levels. If you could discuss this with your Vet and have him listed as that, youre golden.

I dont know what my "boxer mix" actually is either and I think hes pretty darn cute too.

Any updates from the OP on the outcome, if any, on this situation?

Does the dog that was stolen have papers listing parents with DNA on file with a registry? If not it wont do any good to get DNA from the dog,As they have nothing to compare it to. Maybe You can go to the shelter and spend some the time with the dog. If its your dog youll probably know.My bad Didnt realize this thread was so old.

I can totally see a silver lab being mistook for an APBT, the one that we have at the daycare I work at has a very blocky head and so some people could look like a "pit bull"...just my .02!
