| LINKY Mpls. Burglar Gets Baseball Bat To Body, Not Loot (WCCO) A couple burglars got more than they bargained for when they broke into a Minneapolis home last week. One of the young men living in the duplex was armed and ready. Kristopher Williams put his skills as a baseball and softball player to good use. His hits made burglars in his home -- run. Kristopher Williams and his dog were asleep in his room in the wee hours of the morning when he "heard a commotion in the kitchen" and then led to his bedroom. "I heard knives jamming in my door I just kind of thought real quick what was I going to do," said Kristopher Williams. So while his pit bull hid under a pillow, Williams took his quilt, ran into the closet, and grabbed a baseball bat. "Then they had a countdown -- 1, 2, 3 -- and then they broke in," he said. Williams threw his quilt over one burglar and started swinging. "So I hit him two times -- four times," said Williams. A grand slam so hard the bat broke. "The burglar got the short end of the stick," said Minneapolis Police Lt. Greg Reinhardt. "Once it broke, I just started punching him and then he just kind of said 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry.' I'm like 'yeah, me too dude,'" said Williams. In the mean time the other burglar had got out. "The first dude ran out with a bag full of food -- and the second dude left probably about 15 seconds later and he was still kind of woozy. And as he dipped out, I kind of ran after him, and tripped the second one, and stole the bag of food," he said. The bag was filled with pizza and laundry detergent. "They were really desperate I guess," said Williams. They thieves did leave one thing behind. "Blood from the bad guy who wasn't supposed to be here and I ended up beating him really badly," he said. Police admire Williams' courage since he turned the tables on the crooks but don't recommend confronting burglars because they may have a weapon which could seriously injure or kill you. Police say the safest thing to do is call 911. The suspects in this case are still on the loose. __________________ "Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail." -- Henry Wheeler Shaw |
