| Well, I am sad to report that the decision to put Sam down yesterday was made. As I reported the vet diagnosed his condition last saturday as lymphoma. He had been seen by 3 different vets including the one Saturday, within the last several months. Unfortunately none of them until now checked or suggested lymphoma in the first place. The vet that diagnosed Sam was a new one to us and he said call him Tuesday as he wanted the week-end to research treatment and cost. He also said it was not to late to treat him even though he was having bleeding, breathing problems, was not eating much and had dropped a considerable amount of weight. I called his clinic Tuesday morning and was told he would return the call. Called again in the evening when I did not hear from him and was told he would call first thing in the morning. This is Thursday and he has yet to call us. Yesterday morning my son took Sam to a third vet clinic in another town, recommended to him by a friend. He like this vet very much, and she was honest to him about the prognosis and treatment. She said had Sam been diagnosed when he first took him, treatment would be a good option, but she felt with his symptoms it had probably spread to all of his organs. Bringing Sam back home just to die in a few days or a week or so would be selfish on all of our part. We will all miss Sam very much. He was like a big loveable teddy bear. Very gentle. Always wanted to be close to someone. Always had to touch you when lying or sitting next to you. Some one said that was because of his deafness. We will miss Samson very much. Thanks to everyone for your advice and for listening! Karen |
