Default Attention Span

Good Morning,
I have a six month old female APBT her name is Mojave. She is extremely hyper!!!
Usually it's just her and I at home during the day, and she usually listens pretty well to me but when there are people around or other dogs around FORGET IT! It's like she has zero attention span and I try to snap my fingers in her face, or call her name, or do anything to get her attention and nothing works (treats dont even work!!).
Also, because she acts like a maniac when I let her have free range of the house (tearing into everything) I have to keep her baby gated in my kitchen. She has plenty of toys to stimulate her, but she gets bored too quickly with them and if I am not right there in the kitchen with her, she constantly barks!! I have firmly told her NO when she barks (this has been going on for almost three months) and i even have started using a rolled up newspaper and i slap it against the wall to make a loud noise to startle her when she barks, it worked at first but now i think she knows that "the bad girl stick" doesn't do anything except make a loud noise.
As long as its quiet in the house, and its just me and her she is pretty good...but she goes crazy with other people!!!!
How can I get her to listen?
Also, just to add some info about the situation, I take her running and walking about twice a day... she gets plenty of excersize so I know that she isn't lacking in that dept.
I watched some training vidoes and they said that excersize is the most effective way to calm a dog down... well not mine!! LOL!
any suggestions???
Thanks,
Stacey

at 6 months old she should be in a obedience class learning manners and the proper way to act.. please enroll her and you in a class so that you can start training her on how to behave..

i also suggest NILIF (www.k9deb.com) to teach her rules and boundaries..

also, when she barks even if you give her negative attention its still attention... which is why she is still doing it...
