Default Weird noises and eye movement during sleep

Almost EVERY time my puppy sleeps she makes weird whimpering noises and she has these weird "tremors". She sleeps with her eyes halfway open and looks around in her sleep. Is this normal?!!

'Cuz it's serously weirding me out. lol

it's normal in domestic dogs. I've found though, the more tired my dog is, the less she has "dreams".

It weirds me out too, because Kayrah never barks at home (I don't allow it) but she woofs in her dreams all the time

That's what we call "zombie dog". Honeybunch gets it bad every once in a while. Cracks me up =)

I may be wrong on this I will have to go research it...but I think that dogs spend most of their sleep time in R.E.M sleep....I THINK! lemme go look it up!

well that was easy....

In REM Sleep

Animals, fury, feathery or scaly, have similar sleep patterns to humans. (Seeing as humans are animals, this makes sense.) It is quite probable that many animals even dream- particularly dogs and cats.
In many animals, the REM stages of sleep can be easily detected by simply watching them. Some animals sleep with their eyes open. When they do this, their eyes often roll back into their heads and you can easily see their eyes twitching. Even if they sleep with their eyes closed, if you watch closely, you can see that their eyes begin twitching and rolling around. For the most part, it is not known for sure whether or not animals actually dream. Scientists do believe that they do dream; it is thought that animals’ dreams express wish fulfillment as Freud’s theory suggests about humans.
  • Through an experiment gone awry, scientists at the University of Pittsburgh accidentally found out that monkeys do in fact dream during REM sleep stages.
  • Dogs, it is thought, dream about hunting. The common belief that they dream about chasing rabbits is supported by their behavior during REM sleep. One can observe a dog’s ears turn back, its neck stretch out, its breathing shows strain of exertion, and its feet twitch and churn as if running. These are all behaviors exhibited when a dog actually chases a real rabbit.
  • Cats sometimes act as if hunting a mouse while they are asleep. A sleeping cat that tenses its body and waves its tail slowly looks similar to an awake cat that is getting ready to pounce.

Big Girl does this too...however she is not allowed to chase/pick on our rabbit...so I am going to pretend she is dreaming about hunting possums and big cockroaches

I have video on my phone of Divina doing this. It's pretty damn funny yet creepy at the same time. Cori wags her tail when she's dreaming but it doesn't seem like a happy wag, it's kind of a pissed off wag. I think she's dreaming about being a poodle.

Lily has running dreams like every night. Its hilarious, especially when she woofs in her sleep because she never barks unless she's playing with Linley.

There is never a stupid question! I learned something about REM sleep in dogs...it was a great question!

I know that Sparky has running dreams...his legs are going a mile a minute in his sleep and he pants like he has been running...I love watching him dream...

I think Thorne dreams about food because she drools alot in her sleep and leaves big wet spots

My dog has done that. She sleeps on my couch (instead of her bed!) and she'll suddenly kick in her sleep.... it's kinda hurts.
