On a state level, BSL is illegal in Illinois. That doesn't stop the "home rule" cities like Chicago from trying to pass BSL, but it overall looks pretty good right now. I don't know about that town in particular. You might want to get the city hall number and find out. You can also refer to sites like http://www.rott-n-chatter.com/ and http://www.understand-a-bull.com/ for BSL listings, but be warned that these lists are not always complete, so just to be safe, call before you move there.

OMD! I live in Herrin! LOL What brings you to my small town???

I just moved from Chicago and even there they've tried several times for BSL. But IL has ALWAYS wanted to punish the deed not the breed and they make rules much stricter for owners with a dog who has a biting history, no matter the breed..

But I gotta tell ya, this is southern IL, WAY different than northern or even central IL. Southern IL would be happy if they turned into a totally different state because the laws that get passed are great in N. IL and Chicago, but the southerners down here get so damn mad. It's just 2 different worlds.

You won't find much of anything happening here. It's the country folk here and they don't really believe much in doggie restraint. Lots of animals roam free, it really pisses me off. What really pisses me off is that animal control is pretty well useless too.

So you definitely want to be prepared with the mace and a break stick if you take the dogs for a walk. I don't have APBT, but I've seen them in town, sometimes running free, so I carry a break stick that I made in case my mace doesn't cut it.

Anyway, my point is, people here really don't care that much about what kind of dog you have. I've not seen any negative anything about breeds since I moved.
